Normally, the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve card gets you 2 weekend nights (Friday, Saturday, or Sunday) at almost any Hilton after you spend $2,500 in the 1st 4 months of opening your account.
But for a limited time, you’ll also get a $100 statement credit when you spend $100 or more on your 1st stay at a Hilton hotel within the 1st 3 months of opening your account. That more than makes up for the $95 annual fee!
Note: If you’ve opened or closed a Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve card in the past 18 months, you won’t get the 2 weekend night sign-up bonus or statement credit. Hilton hotels include Conrad, DoubleTree, Embassy Suites, Hampton Inn, Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn, Home2Suites, Homewood Suites, and Waldorf Astoria brand hotels.Remember, the card also gives you Gold Elite status, which can save you money with free breakfast!
5 Amazing Hilton Hotels in the South Pacific Where You Can Stay With Your Certificates
1. Australia: Hilton Surfer’s Paradise
Link: Hilton Surfer’s Paradise
Located in Australia’s Gold Coast, ~50 miles from Brisbane, the Hilton Surfer’s Paradise is only a couple of blocks from the famous Surfer’s Paradise beach. But you don’t have to be a surfer to enjoy your stay here!
When not enjoying the beach, there’s lots of shopping, including beachfront markets, and restaurants to try. And there’s a week-long Elvis Presley celebration each year!
The Hilton Surfer’s Paradise is a Hilton category 7 hotel. You’d normally pay 50,000 points per night for an award room.
I checked the price of a paid stay in October, and it costs 279 Australian dollars, or ~$215 per night.
While that’s not a very expensive room (considering you can book ANY price hotel with your certificates!), it could be worth using your 2 weekend nights in a beautiful setting like this!
2. Bora Bora: Hilton Bora Bora Nui Resort & Spa
Link: Hilton Bora Bora Nui Resort & Spa
Emily and I stayed at the Hilton Bora Bora Nui Resort & Spa on our 2nd honeymoon to the South Pacific. This was 1 of our most memorable trips!
You can use the 2 weekend night certificates to book a standard (garden view) guest room. As Gold Elite members, Emily and I were offered a complimentary upgrade to a regular overwater bungalow if available, or could pay extra to upgrade to a premium overwater bungalow.
The price of the upgrade depends on your dates of travel. You can read about how I emailed the hotel directly in this post.
The Hilton Bora Bora Nui Resort & Spa is a Hilton category 9 resort. Award nights normally cost 80,000 Hilton points. Because they’re undergoing renovations, award rooms can be hard to find. But keep checking back (or use Hotel Hustle’s award night alert feature) because sometimes folks cancel!
A paid night in January at this hotel costs 34,200 francs, or ~$307. So by using your 2 weekend night certificates, you’ll get a stay valued at ~$614 (or more if you get a free upgrade to a standard overwater bungalow by having Gold Elite status from the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve card!).
3. Fiji: Hilton Fiji Beach Resort & Spa
Link: Hilton Fiji Beach Resort & Spa
If Fiji is on your bucket list, you could consider using your 2 weekend night certificates at the Hilton Fiji Beach Resort & Spa. It’s not far from the Nadi airport and is located on a ~1 mile long private beach.
Fiji is known for its excellent diving, snorkeling, and fishing. And the more adventurous can zipline, hike, or take a mud bath!
A Hilton category 7 hotel, the Hilton Fiji Beach Resort and Spa normally costs 60,000 Hilton points per night. A paid room in September costs 615 Fijian dollars per night, or ~$301.
So if you used your 2 weekend night certificates here, you’d get a stay worth over $600!
4. Moorea: Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort & Spa
Link: Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort & Spa
As part of our 2nd honeymoon, Emily and I stayed at the Hilton Moorea Lagoon Resort & Spa. We took a fast ferry from Papeete to Moorea, and stayed in an overwater bungalow (again!).
The 2 weekend night certificates can only be used to book a standard (garden view) guest room. But because we are Gold Elite members, Emily and I were offered a complimentary upgrade to a deluxe garden bungalow. Instead, I paid ~$200 to upgrade to a panoramic overwater bungalow (but rates vary depending on date of travel).
To get the upgrade, I emailed the hotel directly and negotiated the $200 upgrade charge.
This is a Hilton category 9 hotel, and usually costs 70,000 Hilton points per night. A paid night in September costs 41,040 francs, or ~$369.
By using the 2 weekend night certificates, you’ll get a stay worth at least ~$738!
5. New Zealand: Hilton Auckland
Link: Hilton Auckland
We haven’t made it to New Zealand yet, but it’s on our list! When we go, we’ll consider staying at the Hilton Auckland. It’s right on the ocean and located downtown, close to restaurants, nightlife, and attractions like the Auckland Sky Tower.
The hotel sits on a pier that extends ~1,000 feet out into the water. And it’s well known for its top-rated restaurant, Fish, which specializes in New Zealand seafood. (Sorry, Emily!)
It’s a Hilton category 7 hotel, and costs 60,000 Hilton points per night in January. A paid room costs 409 New Zealand dollars, or ~$314.
If you booked 2 weekend nights using your certificates, you’d get ~$628 value!
How Do You Use the Hilton Weekend Night Certificates?
You’ll earn the 2 weekend night certificates after you spend $2,500 in the 1st 4 months of opening your Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve account.
Hilton will email your certificates within 6 to 8 weeks of meeting the minimum spending requirement. But to book a room, you have to call Hilton at 800-446-6677.
There are a few other details to keep in mind:
- The certificates are valid for 12 months from the date they’re issued
- They can only be used for Friday, Saturday, or Sunday night stays
- Only the primary cardholder can use the certificates
- The room rate and taxes are included, but gratuities, incidental charges, and resort fees are NOT (although some folks report certain hotels will waive the resort fee!)
- You can only book a standard room (not a premium room or suite) with these certificates
If you accidentally delete the email (or don’t receive it), don’t worry – the certificates should still show up in your Hilton account when you call them!
Note: With the limited-time promotion for the $100 statement credit, you must spend at least $100 on your 1st Hilton stay within 3 months of opening your account.Bottom Line
If you want to get (far) away, using the 2 weekend night certificates from the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve card in Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific can be an excellent value.
And if you’re willing to pay extra for an upgrade, you could even stay in an overwater bungalow in Bora Bora or Moorea, like Emily and I did on our 2nd honeymoon!
