American Express Membership Rewards points are great because of all the useful transfer partners.  And right now, some folks are being targeted for a transfer bonus to Virgin Atlantic.  There are offers of up to a 30% bonus when you transfer your AMEX Membership Rewards points to Virgin Atlantic.

This means for every 1,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points you transfer, you would receive 1,300 Virgin Atlantic miles.  There is no official end date on this promotion.  And while Virgin Atlantic typically has outrageous fees on their award flights, you can avoid these fees by booking awards with their airline partners.

American Express Membership Rewards Virgin Atlantic Transfer Bonus (Targeted)

Virgin Atlantic miles aren’t often discussed as a transfer partner because they have high fuel surcharges on many of their flights, which often prevents it from being a great deal.  But with Virgin Atlantic’s partner airlines you can find good deals, especially with Delta or ANA using Virgin Atlantic miles.

You can fly from the Western US to Japan with ANA for just 60,000 Virgin Atlantic miles round trip in coach.  AMEX Membership Rewards points transfer in increments of 1,000 points.  So with this transfer bonus, you would only need to transfer 47,000 Membership Rewards points to have enough Virgin Atlantic miles for this ticket (47,000 AMEX point transfer + 30% transfer bonus).  That’s a good deal for flights to Japan!

Prefer to fly Business Class?  The same flight round trip in Business Class with ANA would cost 90,000 Virgin Atlantic miles which you could get by transferring 70,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points (70,000 AMEX Point transfer + 30% transfer bonus).

If you’re targeted you may have a cap on the number of AMEX Membership Rewards points you can transfer, which normally isn’t the case with these transfer bonuses.  So pay attention to that.

This is a targeted deal with no official end date.  So it is a bit strange.  Overall this could be a good deal to take advantage of if you were looking for comfortable flights to Japan on ANA.  This could also be a great way to get deals on Delta award flights.
