Good news for folks who like earning cash back!  Because the welcome bonuses on both the Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express and Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express from have increased!

You can earn $150 back (as a statement credit) after meeting minimum spending requirements with the no-annual-fee AMEX Blue Cash Everyday card (See Rates & Fees).  And $200 back as a statement credit after meeting the minimum spending requirements on the AMEX Blue Cash Preferred card!

Earning the welcome Bonus on the AMEX Blue Cash Cards Is Basically Like Putting Cash In Your Wallet

I’ll share the details of these offers and help you decide if they’re right for you!

Better Bonuses on the AMEX Blue Cash Cards

Link:   Blue Cash Preferred Card from American Express

With the AMEX Blue Cash Everyday card, you can earn $150 back as a statement credit after spending $1,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.

That’s $50 MORE than the regular welcome bonus on a card that has no annual fee.  But it isn’t a good card to use abroad because it adds foreign transaction fees (See Rates & Fees).

  • 3% cash back at US supermarkets (up to $6,000 per year, then 1%)
  • 2% cash back at US gas stations and select US department stores
  • 1% cash back on everything else
  • NO annual fee
  • Terms and restrictions apply

Earn Bonus Cash Back at US Supermarkets With the AMEX Blue Cash Everyday and Blue Cash Preferred Cards, on up to $6,000 in Spending per Year

With the AMEX Blue Cash Preferred card, you’ll earn a $200 statement credit after spending $1,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of opening your account.  Again, an increase of $50 over the regular welcome offer.

  • 6% cash back at US supermarkets (up to $6,000 per year, then 1%)
  • 3% cash back at US gas stations and select US department stores
  • 1% cash back on everything else
  • Terms and restrictions apply

But the $95 annual fee is NOT waived the first year (See Rates & Fees) and the card adds foreign transaction fees (See Rates & Fees).

Just remember, American Express restricts card welcome bonuses to once per card, per person, per lifetime.  So if you’ve earned the welcome bonus on either of these cards before, you are NOT eligible for it again.

Should You Apply?

If you’re over Chase’s 5/24 rule and looking for an easy way to earn cash back (in the form of a statement credit), you could consider either of these cards.

The AMEX Blue Cash Everyday card is a better deal because it has no annual fee.  And because the $95 annual fee on the AMEX Blue Cash Preferred card is NOT waived the first year, the $200 welcome bonus is really more like a $105 bonus ($200 welcome bonus – $95 annual fee).

These are NOT the best offers we’ve ever seen on these cards.  So it could be worth waiting for an even bigger welcome bonus if you’re in no rush to apply.

Plus, if you’re new to miles & pointsI always recommend getting any Chase cards you want first.

But remember, if you’ve opened 5+ cards from any bank (NOT counting Chase business cards and these other business cards) in the past 24 months, it’s unlikely you’ll be approved for most Chase cards.

And the Chase Sapphire Preferred Card is my favorite card for beginners, because it earns flexible Chase Ultimate Rewards points.

Bottom Line

There are better offers for the AMEX Blue Cash Preferred and Blue Cash Everyday card.

You can earn $200 back with the AMEX Blue Cash Preferred and $150 back with AMEX Blue Cash Everyday card after meeting minimum spending requirements.  So if you’ve been considering these cards you could apply now.

That said, we’ve seen even better deals on both cards in the past.  And there are other cards with more valuable welcome bonuses.
