Earny is an app and website that makes your credit card’s price protection automatic by collecting receipts from your email inbox and monitoring for price changes online. Then automatically sends you a refund for the difference if prices drop!
The app sends a notification when there’s a price drop on a recent purchase along with an earnings summary every month.
Currently, it only supports Chase and Citi cards, like the Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Ink Business Preferred, and Citi Prestige. So if you have a card from either bank, using Earny could be worth it.
With any Chase card, you can get up to $2,500 in price protection each year, on up to $500 per item. And the request must be made within 90 days of purchase.
Citi offers the same amount of price protection – a maximum refund of $500 per item and $2,500 per calendar year. But the request has to be made within 60 days.
With Earny, you don’t have to worry about making the price protection claim at all. Because it will make it for you! But it DOES take 25% of what you earn.
That said, it works with LOTS of popular merchants that sell a huge variety of items, including:
- Best Buy
- Banana Republic
- Old Navy
And don’t forget, if you make an in-store purchase at a participating store, you can ask for an emailed receipt (if available), so Earny can track the purchase.
Does It Work?
It does! Million Mile Secrets reader Thomas sent us a Facebook message to let us know about Earny. And has used it successfully before!
After signing-up for Earny, he got a notification that the price had dropped on a recent purchase he made at BestBuy.
And then got a ~$63 refund. That’s a HUGE savings!
Here’s How to Start Saving
1. Login With Your Email
First, you’ll be asked to sign into your email account and grant Earny access to your emails.
2. Connect Earny to Your Amazon Account
Once you’ve given Earny permission to access your email account, they’ll also ask for your Amazon login information.
Earny works on Amazon purchases, but Amazon doesn’t send itemized receipts. So they’ll need access to your Amazon account, too!
3. Add Your Cards
Then, you’ll be able to add cards to your account.
Many of the most popular cards for folks in the miles & points hobby are available in Earny’s menu.
After you select a card, you’ll be asked to enter the card’s information.
From there, click “Submit,” and the card will be added to your account!
The process is straightforward and only takes a couple of minutes. So it could certainly be worth your time. Especially if you do a lot of online shopping!
4. Invite Friends
Earny also offers an incentive for inviting friends to use the app. Currently, you’ll earn 5% of referred friends’ refunds, plus 5% of their friends’ refunds.
And it’s easy to share your personal referral link via email or social media!
What’s the Catch?
The main downside I see is using Earny means you’ll have to allow them access to your email, so the program can find the receipts to track for price drops.
Essentially, you’re allowing Earny access to gather consumer information from you.
You’ll also have to provide them with your Amazon login information, since Amazon doesn’t send receipts via email.
For folks who are uncomfortable sharing personal information, Earny might not make sense. As a workaround, you could always use a separate email address for shopping online. 😉
Earny also takes a 25% cut of your refund. And although that may sound like a lot, it’s worth it in my opinion. Because otherwise you’d have to spend time filing the claim yourself. And, you might not even check to know there’s been a price drop!
Lastly, it would be great if it worked with MasterCards (other than those issued by Citi), Capital One, and Discover cards. Because lots of folks, especially in our hobby, have cards like Discover It or Barclaycard Arrival Plus World Elite Mastercard.
Are There Similar Services?
Paribus is another service like Earny, which works in almost the exact same way. It needs email access and access to your Amazon account to automatically look for price drops on items you’ve purchased.
Paribus also takes a 25% cut on the refunds you earn. But it works with a few more popular merchants, like Bed Bath & Beyond, REI, and Home Depot.
In reality, you could use both! And have more detectives on the case. 😉
Personal cards from Citi also include a built-in feature called Citi Price Rewind, that also helps you save when prices drop.
That said, it isn’t automatic like Earny or Paribus, because you have to fill-in the details of each purchase you want to track on the Citi Price Rewind website. But you’ll get the full refund, instead of paying a 25% commission! So it could be worth the hassle for bigger purchases or when there are lots of sales going on, like during the holidays.
Discover also offers price protection. But similar to Citi Price Rewind, you’ll have to file a claim to get a refund. Million Mile Secrets team member Scott successfully used Discover’s price protection to get money back on an Amazon purchase!

Instead of filling a price protection claim yourself, Earny will do it for you.
The app tracks receipts in your email inbox and compares the price you paid, in case there’s a price drop. Then sends you a refund for the difference! But they’ll keep 25% of the refund as a commission for the service.
For now, it only works at certain merchants, like Target, Costco, and Staples. And it only works with Chase and Citi cards. But fingers crossed it will support more stores and cards from other banks, like Discover and Capital One, in the future!
