In the market for Alaska Airlines miles?  I have good news!

Alaska Airlines is awarding bonus miles when you buy miles through April 6, 2017.  The more miles you buy, the higher the bonus!

Here’s more about this deal!

Earn a Bonus When You Buy Alaska Airlines Miles

Link:   Buy Alaska Airlines Miles

Through April 6, 2017, you can get up to a 40% bonus when you buy Alaska Airlines miles.  A possible 24,000 bonus miles!

You will only get a bonus if you purchase at least 10,000 miles.  You’ll get:

  • 20% bonus on purchases between 10,000 and 19,000 Alaska Airlines miles
  • 30% bonus on purchases between 20,000 and 39,000 Alaska Airlines miles
  • 40% bonus on purchases between 40,000 and 60,000 Alaska Airlines miles

You Can Buy Miles for as Low as ~2.1 Cents Each

You can buy up to 60,000 Alaska Airlines miles per transaction.  And there’s no limit to the total number of miles you can buy.  So do the math to see what makes sense for you!

You’ll get the best value if you buy at least 40,000 Alaska Airlines miles with a 16,000 mile bonus.  You would receive 56,000 miles, and pay $1,182 (after taxes), or ~2.1 cents per point ($1,182 in cash / 56,000 Alaska Airlines miles).

That’s not exactly a “steal”, so this deal is likely only worth it for folks who need to top off their account for a particular award ticket.  Or for folks who want to fly First Class at a discount.

For example, you could fly First Class on Cathay Pacific from the US to Southeast Asia for 70,000 Alaska Airlines miles one-way.

With a 40% bonus, you could buy 50,000 Alaska Airlines miles for ~$1,478 and get a 20,000 mile bonus, for a total of 70,000 Alaska Airlines miles.

You Can Buy Enough Alaska Airlines Miles to Fly First Class for a Fraction of the Cash Price of the Same Ticket

Paying ~$1,478 for a one-way First Class ticket to Asia is a great deal!  Because if you were to buy a First Class ticket, you could easily spend $6,000+.

Remember, you can also use Alaska Airlines miles for flights on other partner airlines, like Delta and Emirates.  And read my post about how to use fewer miles for short flights with Alaska Airlines’ new award chart.

Bottom Line

When you buy Alaska Airlines miles through April 6, 2017, you’ll get a bonus on the miles you purchase.  But you’ll have to buy at least 10,000 miles to get a bonus.

This deal probably isn’t worth it for most folks, unless you have a specific award ticket in mind.  Or unless you want to fly Business or First Class at a discount.  As always, do the math to see what makes sense for you!

  1. I use Alaska to fly American airlines quite often to South America. Alaska rewards are the gem of the points game. Thanks for this post. I will be updating my travel and dating blog: http://themasculinetraveler.com on various cities in South America that I travel using points from Alaska Airlines. Great redemptions for AA.

  2. Hi Million Miles Team,

I was wondering your opinion on the best card for those that live in Seattle. I recently moved and have been a part-time card enthusiast for a few years now. I was thinking about the Alaska Airlines card because they have so many flights here, but the bonus is not that large. Delta also has a lot in Seattle now too from what I was reading. I haven’t really flown that much with either, but understand Delta’s rewards are more difficult to find than Alaska.

What’s your thoughts on the best plan for someone who already has the Sapphires, can’t really get another chase card for another year? Is it the Alaska card? Or some other card that would transfer better?

  3. My bad! I missed this opportunity.
