Normally, Citi ThankYou points transfer to JetBlue at a 5:4 or 2:1 ratio, depending on which type of Citi card you have.  But this deal could be worth it to lots of folks, especially if you like flying JetBlue.

I’ll explain why!  And help you decide whether this deal makes sense for you.

Citi JetBlue Transfer Bonus

Bonuses Like This Can Really Add Up and Save You Lots of Cash!

If you have the Citi ThankYou Preferred or Citi Forward card (no longer available), you normally get 500 JetBlue points for every 1,000 Citi ThankYou points you transfer.

But you’ll get 750 JetBlue points for every 1,000 Citi ThankYou points you transfer during this offer.

Is It Worth It?

It’s usually NOT worth transferring Citi ThankYou Points to JetBlue.  But with this deal, it could be!  Especially if you like flying JetBlue or have one of the premium Citi ThankYou cards.

Million Mile Secrets team member Scott loves flying JetBlue because of the extra legroom and live TV for sports and news.  He also thoroughly enjoys the free unlimited snacks, especially the Cheez-It crackers. 😉

Let’s Take a Look at the Math

JetBlue points are usually worth ~1.4 cents each towards a flight, but this number can vary slightly depending on the route.  Because the number of points required for an award flight depends on the cash price of a ticket.

So if you transferred 1,000 Citi ThankYou points with this promotion, depending on the cards you have, you’d get:

  • 1,200 JetBlue points (with premium Citi ThankYou cards) = ~$17 in JetBlue flights
  • 750 JetBlue points (with no-annual-free Citi ThankYou cards) = ~$11 in JetBlue flights

This could be a good deal for folks with no-annual-fee cards, because they do NOT have the option to use Citi ThankYou points to book paid travel at an improved rate.  And JetBlue is their only airline transfer option at this time.

Plus, with the 50% bonus, you’ll get more value than you normally would using your Citi ThankYou points to book paid flights directly through the Citi ThankYou Travel Portal.

1.   Citi Prestige Cardholders

If you hold the Citi Prestige card, you can book paid flights (including JetBlue) through the Citi ThankYou Travel Portal at a rate of 1.33 cents per point (until July 23, 2017, then 1.25 cents per point).  And you can also book American Airlines flights (including partner airlines like Finnair) through the Citi Travel Portal at a rate of 1.6 cents per going (until July 23, 2017).

Citi JetBlue Transfer Bonus

You Can Use Citi ThankYou Points to Book Tickets on American Airlines With NO Blackout Dates

So 1,000 Citi ThankYou points are worth ~$13 toward JetBlue flights (1,000 X 1.33 cents per point) and ~$16 toward American Airlines flights (1,000 points X 1.6 cents per point) if you have the Citi Prestige card.  That’s less than the ~$17 in JetBlue flights you’d get for transferring 1,000 Citi ThankYou points to JetBlue with this promotion!

But it wouldn’t make sense if you a particular flight on American Airlines fits better within your travel plans. 😉

2.   Citi ThankYou Premier Cardholders

Citi ThankYou Premier cardholders get a rate of 1.25 cents per point towards paid flights.  So 1,000 Citi ThankYou points are also worth ~$13 in JetBlue flights.

The best option would usually be to use your Citi ThankYou points to book paid flights through the Citi ThankYou Travel Portal, like I mentioned above.  But you’ll get an even better deal with this promotion, by transferring your points directly to JetBlue!

Just remember, with either card, you’ll earn frequent flyer miles for your paid flight.  On JetBlue award flights, you won’t earn anything.

And you might save even more transferring your Citi ThankYou points to Singapore Airlines for flights to Europe, Asia, Hawaii, and more.

As always, I suggest doing the math to see what makes sense for you!

Bottom Line

You’ll earn a 50% bonus when you transfer Citi ThankYou points to JetBlue through April 30, 2017.

I don’t usually recommend transferring Citi ThankYou points to JetBlue unless you have a specific flight in mind.

But with this promotion, you’ll get more value from your points than you would by booking paid flights with Citi ThankYou points directly through the Citi ThankYou Travel Portal.

One response to “Limited Time: 50% Bonus on Citi ThankYou Point Transfers to JetBlue

  1. This is an especially good deal if you have the JetBlue card, as you will get 10% back when you redeem the points. So 1000 ThankYou points = 1320 TrueBlue.
