Good news for folks with hotel elite status!  If you have elite status with a competing hotel chain, like Choice, Hyatt, IHG, Marriott, or Starwood, Hilton will upgrade your HHonors Elite status to match.

This deal might be targeted, but it’s worth trying!  Because with Hilton Elite status you’ll get perks like room upgrades, extra bonus points, executive lounge access, and more!

Million Mile Secrets team member Keith was on Instagram and saw an advertisement for a F status match.  The terms & conditions say the offer is NOT transferrable, so it could be targeted.  But it’s worth trying because applying for a match only takes a few minutes.

With Hilton elite status, you can get perks like late checkout, bonus Hilton points, and room upgrades for the next 90 days.  And Hilton will give you an opportunity to extend the match through March 31, 2018.

How to Apply

To apply, fill out a short form and submit proof of your status with another hotel chain.  You’ll also have to include proof of a stay with that same hotel chain within the last 12 months.

Hilton Status Match

Applying for a Status Match With Hilton Is Fairly Straightforward and Shouldn’t Take More Than ~5 Minutes

If you haven’t had a hotel stay in that timeframe, don’t worry!  It’s possible to submit proof of an upcoming stay.  So you can book a night with a refundable rate and then cancel after you submit your status match.  Though I can  NOT guarantee this will work!

Also, there is no chart to see which status you’ll need to match each of Hilton’s Elite levels.  But the Hilton status match site lets you choose from several loyalty programs including Choice, Hyatt, IHG, Marriott, or Starwood.  And lots of folks have reported using their IHG Platinum Elite status to earn Hilton Diamond status, their highest status.

You May Already Have Elite Status With Another Hotel

Because IHG Platinum Elite status is automatic with the Chase IHG card, this can be an easy way to earn status with another hotel brand.

Other credit cards like the Chase Hyatt and the Ritz-Carlton Rewards card also offer automatic status.  So you might have status with a hotel chain and not realize it. 😉

Here’s my post about which hotel cards give you the best perks (like Elite status!).

Bottom Line

Hilton is currently offering a status match.  And although it could be targeted, it’s worth trying.  Because it only takes a few minutes to apply!

So if you have Elite status with a competing hotel chain, like Hyatt, IHG, or Starwood, fill out the status match form and submit proof of your status, along with proof of a stay at that particular hotel chain within the last 12 months.

And don’t forget, cards like the Chase IHG and Ritz-Carlton Rewards card give you automatic status.  So you may already have Elite status without realizing it!

  1. I currently have HHonors Diamond status from doing a previous status match using my IHG Platinum Elite status from the Chase IHG card. Unfortunately my status expires after this year and I will go back to Silver in 2017. Will Hilton match my IHG Platinum Elite status a second time to let me keep my Diamond status?

  2. Any idea if the stay within the last 12 months has to be a paid stay? Or can it be an award night?

  3. @ Lrosen — I’m in a similar boat, generally Hilton only allows you to do one status match per the life of your account. But, it never hurts to try.

@ Mark P — It will likely need to be a paid stay with the brand you are trying to status match from.

  4. The last time I hotel status matched my proof of stay was a free night stay!! 😉

  5. Wow what an offer! I’ve just reached platinum elite with IHG, I’m also in their Ambassador membership. It would be awesome if Hilton matches my membership to Diamond.

  6. I love that they match ihg plat (40 nights) to Hilton Diamond, but they match Marriott gold (50 nights) to Hilton gold.

  7. @LRosen – I would advise against trying to get a second status match. I was in the same situation as you and after applying for a second status match Hilton shut down my HHonors account, citing that I had violated their terms and conditions. It was only after pointing out that the once per lifetime rule is nowhere in their terms that they agreed to reinstate my account. Not sure if this a policy across the board by just providing my experience.

  8. It is not targeted! You can apply at this link

  9. If I am gold status but moving to blue in 2017, would it make sense to status match to my gold SPG/Marriott now or would it not even matter when 2017 hits? Is it for the next 12 months or based on calendar year?
