If you missed out on the increased sign-up bonus on the Southwest cards last year, here’s another chance to apply!

Via MileCards, the Chase Southwest Premier (Personal), Chase Southwest Premier (Business), and Chase Southwest Plus (Personal) cards all have a 50,000 point sign-up bonus after you spend $2,000 in purchases within the 1st 3 months.

That’s worth ~$710 in Southwest flights, or $500 in gift cards.

Emily and I don’t receive a commission on the Premier Business or Plus Personal cards but we always tell you about the best offers!

Note:   The Chase Southwest Plus (Business) card has been discontinued. 🙁

They're Back All 3 Southwest Cards Offering 50,000 Points

You Can Get the 50,000 Point Sign-Up Bonus on the Southwest Cards Again!

Usually, the sign-up bonus on these cards is 25,000 points.  So this is a great deal, especially for folks looking to qualify for Southwest Companion Pass!

What’s the Deal?

You’ll get 50,000 points after you spend $2,000 in purchases within the 1st 3 months with all 3 of the Southwest cards.  I’m not sure how long these offers will last.  But in the past they’ve been available for a few weeks at a time.

And you’ll earn 2 points per $1 you spend on Southwest, hotel partners, car rental partners, and points purchases.  And 1 point per $1 you spend on everything else.

Here are the differences between the Premier and Plus versions of the card:

Emily and I don’t earn a commission from the Southwest Premier Business or Personal Plus offers, but we’ll always tell you about the best deals!

If you’ve already had any of the Southwest cards, you could still get the bonus.  That’s because Chase has changed their rules, and the terms and conditions now say:

This new cardmember bonus offer is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of this consumer credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of this consumer credit card who received a new cardmember bonus for this consumer credit card within the last 24 months.

That’s great news for folks who want to earn the Companion Pass again!

Still a Good Time to Earn the Southwest Companion Pass!

It’s early in the year, which makes it a good time to earn the Southwest Companion Pass.  That’s because if you get the Companion Pass now, it will be valid for all of 2015 AND 2016!  That’s almost 2 years!

The Southwest Companion Pass is the best deal for domestic travel, because your companion travels with you for almost free on both paid and award tickets.  To get the Companion Pass, you need to earn 110,000 Southwest points in a calendar year.

They're Back All 3 Southwest Cards Offering 50,000 Points

Two Can Travel for the Price of 1 With the Southwest Companion Pass

By applying for 2 Southwest credit cards (personal and business), you’ll earn 104,000 points (including points from meeting minimum spending).  And there are lots of ways to easily earn the last 6,000 points you need for the Companion Pass!

Remember, each of the Southwest cards is considered a different card product, so you can get a personal and business card at the same time.

If don’t think you’re eligible for a business card, read my post about ways you might qualify!

Note:   It’s unlikely Chase will approve you for 2 personal cards at the same time.

Bottom Line

All 3 versions of the Chase Southwest credit cards now offer an increased 50,000 point sign-up bonus after you spend $2,000 in the 1st 3 months.  That’s worth ~$710 in Southwest flights!

This is an even better deal if you apply for 2 cards (personal and business), because you’ll earn most of the points necessary for the Southwest Companion Pass.  By qualifying for the pass early in the year, you’ll get almost 2 years of Big Travel with Small Money!

And folks who’ve had these cards in the past could qualify for them again, as long as they haven’t gotten the card bonus in the past 24 months.

  1. First thank you for all the info…. to make sure I understand this… If i get both personal and business cards that will put me at 100k southwest points, plus the $4k minimum spending will bring me to 104K southwest points.. At that point to get the other 6k points I can transfer 12k UR points to hyatt and hyatt to southwest which will put me at 110k Southwest points.

    thank you,

  2. This is great news. I was kicking myself for missing out last time.
Does it matter which card to apply first? Personal Premier or business premier?
I had plus card in last 24 mo. so I will need to skip that card.

  3. Noob seeking advice:

I was all set to apply for the ink+ and British airways cards at the end of the month. I spend about 2k monthly on what could be card purchases. If I am to utiliz the staples gift card/evolve money scheme this equate to roughly 200k avios by years end. I live in Seattle and am able to utilize the short distance partner flights for a lot of my more frequent destinations.

On the other hand the 110k southwest points and companion pass for my wife seems too good to pass up.

I am just finishing the spend req on my current Ritz Carleton. 761 fico and a cc utilization in the 12% range.

Which seems to be the greater value for a new guy starting out?

  4. I’m just getting into the miles game and was approved for the Chase Sapphire Preferred and Barclays USAIR Visa a couple weeks ago. I’d really like to take advantage of the Southwest personal and business card offers, but am not sure if I stand a chance to be approved since I just got two new cards (one from Chase).

I do own a business, so that’s not a barrier. Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated.

  5. I just went through my first app at the beginning of this month. Chase IHG, Barclay US, and Amex Gold.

How long do you think these will last? Would it be safe to apply before 91 days?

  7. You can also get the CP by getting both the personal Plus and the personal Premier, although I’m not sure about doing them as same-day applications.

  8. Last fall I was approved for the personal Premier, then the personal Plus about a week later (albeit with a much lower limit).

  9. I just applied for my first round of apps in the beginning of Jan. Chase IHG, Barclay US, and Amex Gold.

How long do you think the SW offer will last. Do I have to wait 91 days before applying.
Sorry if re-post, my previous comment seemed to have disappeared.

  10. My Gf got both personal cards on the same day. Can one get all three cards on the same day?

  11. @ Judah- The “rule” is 2 apps with Chase in 60 days (very flexible in reconsideration). You’re fine for another one. If you also want the biz WN you may well convince the biz dept. you need it and it’s not a 3rd personal in 60 days on a reconsideration call.. Takes explaining but I’ve done it.

@ryan- Your gf’s breaking new ground. See above about 3 in 60.

  12. Can you apply for both Premier cards (Personal and Business). I already have the Plus personal card? Does it matter what combination?

  13. Got questions here….

    1. I had a personal premier about a year ago, got a bonus only $100 back to the statement at that time and already canceled the card…. So, can I still get a 50,000 sign up bonus for personal premier card if I apply now? (cancel within 24 months… but different different sign up bonus offered)

    2. Even though I already got the sign up bonus from Personal Premier card, I can still get a sign up bonus for PLUS card, right? Since they are different product…

    Thanksss

  14. Just applied for the plus and approved. All ready have Bus and person premier

  15. Got questions here…

I had SW premier personal card and canceled it about 8-9 months ago…. Am I eligible for 50,000 sign up bonus for SW plus card now?

  16. @Tae — Yes, they are different cards. You can even hold both at same time.

  17. “Note: It’s unlikely Chase will approve you for 2 personal cards at the same time.” – Could you (or anyone else with experience on this issue) perhaps explain why this is the case? In light of other commenters saying that they have been approved for 2 personal cards, do you know what factors make it more or less likely to be approved for 2 personal cards?

  18. Hi,

Thanks for all the info!! I applied for both the Chase Premier Personal and Business cards. I was approved for the personal card but got rejected for the business card stating “too many requests or line of credit”. I called the personal card to reduce my line of credit from double digits to single digits, hoping that should help. I had applied the business card under my name and ssn. Do you think there are any additional steps I should take before I reapply for Business card? Any other pointers?

    Thanks!

  19. I applied for the SW rapid personal premier last Nov. didn’t know about the companion pass at that time. I finished the 2k spending in Dec. The 52000 points was posted to my account on 12/29/2014. Does it mean that if I apply for another card(business), I will not be able to get my companion pass? Or there’s some other way can make this work?

  20. Hi I was told that the card annual fee does not count toward the spend limit. Does anyone know if this is true or not?

  21. @Corey – Yes, annual fee does not count. Also excluded are cash advances, balance transfer (and may be a couple more that I do not remember right now)
You can call the number on back of the card (if you already have it), or Chase CC board line to get more details.

  22. I got approved for the plus on 1/8/15. i Just took my chances and applied for the premier and was automatically approved. I did also apply for both cards in Jan 2013 to get the companion pass. My fico score is 814 so that is prob why. Ill let you all know if this goes off with no hitches! Hopefully ill have the companion pass by March!!

  23. Great news…approved for premier a couple of weeks ago and was bummed that the plus did not have the 50k reward at that time. Just approved for the plus…should be able to get the 100k and find ways to make the additional 10k happen! Great info!

  24. Just a point of clarification: while the Rapid Rewards dining will earn you miles, the miles do not count towards the companion pass. If you charge with your Southwest charge, then the actual amount charged will result in qualifying miles credit. Thus, the dining program for Rapid Rewards is really not helpful towards the Companion Pass–I can use my SW credit card to pay while getting dining points on other airlines like United.

  25. Maybe I’m slightly paranoid about potentially missing a bonus after meeting the spend, but the official wording has me a little leery of applying right now. Here is a direct quote “This bonus offer is available to you as long as you have not received a new cardmember bonus for this product in the past 24 months”. So my thinking is that you can’t apply until after 24 months has passed from receiving the bonus. I received my bonus at the end of feb 2013, so it seems like the offer that I am applying is not valid for me. Has anyone received a second bonus on the card who has similar circumstances as I mentioned?

  26. @Darius do you have an answer to my question above?

    Thanks

  27. Thanks for all the info!!
Do you know the offer is still available?
I’d like to apply plus card and I can see following links.

    https://creditcards.chase.com/6000321?CELL=6PLX
    https://creditcards.chase.com/6000321?CELL=6PLT

But I don’t find any 50,000 offer from chase credit card or south west home page..

  28. I’m trying to find a 50,000 offer for Southwest PLUS personal credit card. Can you please help me. Thank you.

  29. anyone have links to the plus card for 50k. Applied for premier with 50k few days and approved. Any links or referrals? right now it seems the only way to get 50k for plus through referrals

  30. When I called the hotline to ask about this offer, I was told that the 50,000 signup bonus miles do not count toward the 110,000 miles needed for a companion pass. Has anyone actually received a companion pass using this strategy of combining a business and personal card?

    Thanks!

  31. @ Herschel – yes, both card offers count towards the companion pass.

Southwest Premier 50K Bonus Offer — Apply by 31 Aug 2015. Thanks.
