Citi Hilton HHonors 60,000 Point Card & 50,000 Points AMEX Business Gold Rewards

Disclosure:  Emily & I get a commission for links on the blog.  You don’t have to use our links, but we’re very grateful when you do.  We don’t write about all the credit cards available in the US, but only the ones which get us miles and points or cash back for Big Travel with Small Money!

1.   Citi Hilton

Via Free Frequent Flyer Miles, there’s a new offer for the Citi Hilton HHonors Visa Signature card that gets you 60,000 Hilton points after completing minimum spending.  And with this card, there’s no annual fee!

Emily and I do NOT get a commission for this card.  But I’ll tell you about a better offer even if it doesn’t pay us a commission.

60,000 Hilton Points, a $25 Statement Credit, and NO Annual Fee

Is This a Good Deal?

Link:   Citi Hilton HHonors Visa Signature 60,000 Point Card

If you apply for the Citi Hilton HHonors Visa Signature card before August 31, 2014, you’ll get:

  • 60,000 Hilton points after you spend $1,000 in the 1st 4 months
  • 6 points for every $1 you spend at Hilton hotels
  • 3 points for every $1 you spend at supermarkets, drug stores, and gas stations
  • 2 points for every $1 you spend on everything else
  • Free Hilton Silver Elite status (15% points bonus on Hilton points earned, 2 free bottles of water, late check-out)
  • Free Hilton Gold Elite status (free breakfast and internet) after staying at a Hilton 4 times in the 1st 3 months
  • $25 statement credit after spending at least $200 on a National, Alamo, or Enterprise car rental in the 1st 4 months
  • NO annual fee

This is a better deal than my link, which is for only 40,000 points and doesn’t have a statement credit.  This is also the highest offer I’ve seen on the no-annual fee Citi Hilton card.

Note:   You’ll get the $25 statement credit only if you book a car rental directly through National, Alamo, or Enterprise.  And it has to be in the US or Canada.

This is the 1st time I’ve seen an offer like this, but it pays to shop around.  There are lots of ways to get cheap car rentals and you might get a better deal booking elsewhere.

That said, I still prefer the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve card.  Even though it has an annual fee of $95, it’s well worth it because of the 2 free weekend nights at any Hilton (after meeting minimum spending), gold elite status, and $100 Hilton statement credit.  You can read my review of the card and see which 1 you prefer!

The Citi Hilton Reserve Could Get You 2 Weekend Nights at the Conrad Tokyo

What Can You Do With 60,000 Hilton Points?

Link:   Hilton Award Chart

60,000 Hilton points can get you up to 12 nights in a Category 1 hotel.  But there aren’t many of them and few are in desirable vacation spots!  I’d much rather use the points for a middle category hotel, which cost 20,000 to 60,000 points per night.

You Could Get a Few Free Nights With 60,000 Hilton Points

Because this card gives you Hilton silver elite status, you’ll also get a free night on a stay of 5 nights or more.

Hilton also lets you book Points and Money awards, which allow you to book rooms with a combination of points and cash.  Sometimes this can be a very good deal!

For example, the DoubleTree Orlando Universal Studios costs 20,000 Hilton points a night.  So you could get a 3-night stay with the sign-up bonus on the Citi Hilton HHonors Visa Signature card.

But by using Points and Money, it only costs 8,000 points plus $40 (still quite reasonable) per night.  You could stretch out the sign-up bonus and stay for a whole week!

You’d Pay 20,000 Points per Night, or 8,000 Points Plus $40 Using Points and Money

And if you’re planning to complete a Hilton stay by July 31, 2014, you can earn double Hilton points on room charges that include the hotel’s restaurants.

2.   AMEX Business Gold

Via Online Travel Review, you can get 50,000 American Express Membership Rewards Points with the Business Gold card after spending $5,000 within 3 months.  This offer ends on June 2, 2014!

This is much better than the link which earns us a commission, which is for only 25,000 points after spending $2,000 within 3 months.  So you’re better off using the link on Online Travel Review!

Here’s a post on what to do with Membership Rewards points.

You can get at least $500 in air travel when you use 50,000 Membership Rewards points to book travel using the “Pay with Points” option.

You can transfer Membership Rewards points to airline partners and then redeem for flights within the US, to Hawaii, and the rest of the world.  The bad news is that most partners charge fuel surcharges on international awards which vary by the partner airline you fly on.

Membership Rewards airline and hotel transfer partners often have transfer bonuses, so you may be able to transfer your points to, say, British Airways and get 40% more points.

Bottom Line

You can get 60,000 Hilton points after completing minimum spending on the Citi Hilton HHonors Visa Signature card.  But you have to apply by August 31, 2014.  You’ll also get a $25 statement credit if you spend $200 renting a car, and there’s no annual fee.

If you need Hilton points, this could be a good card for you.  But I much prefer the Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve card because you get gold elite status (free breakfast and internet!) and 2 free weekend nights at any Hilton.

The 50,000 points offer on the American Express Business Gold Rewards card is much better than the current offer!  None of these offers pay us a commission, but they are better for you!

  1. Can one apply for *BOTH* Citi Hilton Cards and combine the bonuses?

    Ex.
    – Citi Hilton HHonors Visa Signature card (60k points)
    – Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve card (Gold Status and 2 wkend nights) & $100 Hilton statement credit

  2. The other nice thing about using Points + Money is that the money that you spend will earn you points as well (possibly the 6x if you pay with your Hilton card)

  3. Richard Hornback

Love to get it. But working on the $5000 spending for the chase ink card right now. If anyone has recommendations on manufactured spending I would appreciate your advise rhornback@hotmail.com

  4. Ugh, I JUST applied for the Citi HHonors Visa Signature on Thursday for 50,000 points. (now my third HHonors Visa Signature). I’ll try to call and see if I can get my bonus bumped up to the 60,000.

@BB, there’s a huge (HUGE!) thread on Flyertalk regarding the best way to apply for Citi cards. In short, don’t apply for both of them on the same day. You should wait at least 8 days between two applications.

  5. Do you still earn gold status even if you redeem your points to stay over 4 times at Hilton ?

  6. I also recently applied for the HHonors Visa Signature card (on a 40,000 points + $50 statement credit offer) and I’m just finishing up completing the spend. Melissa: Please let us know how your luck goes with trying to get your bonus bumped. I’m going to give it a try also. Do you have the number handy for that?

    Thanks!

    – John…

  7. Couple things… First, I made a typo above — the offer I did recently was the 50,000 point offer + $50 statement credit after staying at a Hilton, not 40,000 like I said. So, sounds like the same as you, Melissa.

In any case, I called today and tried to talk them into giving me the extra 10,000 points, but they wouldn’t even consider it. Just said that the offers change now and then and they won’t adjust to a new offer.

If anyone has any better luck, let us know so that we can give it a try! :)

    – John…

  8. I was just approved for the CITI Visa 2 weeks ago with the 50K signup bonus. I called yesterday to see about matching the 60K offer. The new CITI policy is that they will match within the first 90 days of card membership. HOWEVER, it is not as simple as the CHASE secured message system. With CITI you need to mail the screenshot along with your personal information to their customer service. And then, supposedly after it is received and processed the point difference will be adjusted and added to your account. I thought this was too much of a hassle and the manager was able to instead offer an immediate 5K in points which is a common retention bonus for the card. Not the full 10K which MIGHT have eventually been received, but fair enough and no hoops to jump through.

  9. D-

You keep mentioning how you prefer reserve as opposed to the standard citi Hilton card. That makes sense, but at the same time aren’t they considered separate products? As in, you can apply for one right now and the other one after a couple months?

  10. Tad: Can you tell us which number you called? I’ll try again…

    – John…

  11. Earlier this year the gold business card went up to 75k miles so probably worth holding out for another similar offer.

  12. Melissa,

Congratulations to third time winner! I wonder how you can apply the same type of the card for 3 times with signing up bonus. I thought it only work for once.

    Thanks!

    – Lynn

  13. Amex offer: Can one still apply on June 2nd, or is it being pulled on June 2nd (that is, apply on June 1st)?

  14. @BB – Yes, but apply 8 days apart and no more than 2 cards every 65 days.

@ Jung – I believe they should be paid stays.

@John… – Citi usually prefers if you reapply for the cards!

@ Chance – You sure can get both!

    @ Carl – I’d apply before then.

  15. I am Diamond level thanks to my Citi HH Reserve Visa. Will I still maintain Diamond if I get the Citi HH Signature card which offers Silver/Gold status?

  16. @wjs2 – No, because it doesn’t let you earn Diamond for spending $40K a year like you do on the Citi Hilton Reserve.

  17. Link for the Amex 50k hasn’t worked for the last two days. Has the offer already ended ?

  22. Hi
How do you get the free night certificates – what is the criteria for that
I expected another this year and so have not gotten one

  23. @Polly – You get it only after spending $10K within 1 year.

  24. I wanted to let you know in August I applied for this card through your link. I did the minimum spend and was only given 40,000 points. I called Citi and talked with a person and their supervisor. I had nothing to prove I had used the link except the fact I could go here and click on the link which now appeared dead. So I did have at least have the url. The supervisor forwarded my request to receive the 60,000 points and recommended I receive them. Today I got a letter stating I had not been solicited for that deal and unless I can produce the front and back of the paper showing they solicited me they will not grant my request.
