 1.   1,000 Free United Miles.   Just Another Points Traveler writes that you can get 1,000 free United miles by registering with Bckstgr and syncing your Twitter, Facebook, and Foursquare accounts.

2.   American Express SkyGuide Lounge Pass Restriction.   I wrote earlier that the American Express SkyGuide program was a good cheap way to get airport lounge access.

Well, starting from January 1, 2013, Frequent Flyer University says that you can only get reimbursed for 1 lounge pass per calendar month.  This means that if you have a return trip with the start and end dates in the same month, you will get reimbursed for only 1 lounge pass for the entire trip.

The changes aren’t ideal, but even if you submit a reimbursement for 1 lounge pass (~$50), you still come out ahead after the $19.99 annual fee.  But the SkyGuide program certainly isn’t as valuable as it used to be with these changes.

3.   American Express Membership Rewards 30% Transfer Bonus to British Airways.   The Points Guy explains the American Express Membership Rewards 30% transfer bonus to British Airways which ends on January 14, 2013.

  1. Why does it require United password? Although the free miles are appealing, whenever it requires password, I would give up.

  2. @Cong, backstgr made me create a new united account then I called united to have the accounts merged after the miles posted b

  3. I decided to not take the 1000 miles. I don’t feel comfortable handing them my password. I guess you could always change your password after the miles post.

  4. I will be leaving on a long trip this Friday. If I sign up for the SkyGuide, do you think I can start using the benefits within a day or two?

  5. I got 600 miles instantly into my account. Thanks!

    • @Corridor!– As always, do what you’re comfortable with!

@Yvonne – I believe you should be able to submit reimbursements after you’ve got a membership number which you usually get a few hours after singing up.

      – Glad it worked out!

  6. thanks for the skyguide heads up. Would have been burned this jan trip. Skyguide has Not sent an email with this notice of change.

Gonna be many pissed skyguiders who don’t get reimbursements next year.

  12. I can’t get to register anything I try to do on the sight beyond my initial registration and ability to log in. I can’t successfully link any of my social media pages, and I can’t get a message to customer service through–no matter which browser I use.
