INSIDER SECRET: You can get free expedited airport security with the United Explorer Card which comes with a TSA PreCheck or Global Entry credit (worth up to $100 every 4 years). Even better, its $95 annual fee is waived for the first year.

United Airlines is taking a step to help make your airport experience a bit smoother by partnering with CLEAR to bring it’s expedited security program to all of United’s hubs. CLEAR is already available at 30 airports nationwide as well as select sporting venues and Hertz car rental locations.

As a result of this partnership, by the end of this summer CLEAR will be available at two new United Airlines hub cities – Newark and Houston. Also, by the fall of 2019 CLEAR will be available at Chicago’s O’Hare airport.

I have Global Entry which includes TSA PreCheck benefits, so I have little need for CLEAR. If breezing through airport security is on your wishlist, Global Entry is the way to go because it’s exponentially cheaper than CLEAR and you can get your Global Entry or TSA PreCheck fee reimbursed with the right card.

A CLEAR membership normally costs $179 per year, but United MileagePlus members have an opportunity to get a free or discounted membership.

You can get a free membership if you have either of the following United Airlines status levels:

  • Global Services
  • Premier® 1K®

You are eligible for a discounted $109 CLEAR membership if you have:

The information for the United Business Card has been collected independently by Million Mile Secrets. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

The cost of a CLEAR membership for all other United MileagePlus members is $119. United’s MileagePlus loyalty program is free to join and you can read this post for step-by-step instructions on how to set up a United Airlines account.

If you qualify, you can take advantage of your CLEAR discount from United by registering through this link.

You state “I have Global Entry which includes TSA PreCheck benefits, so I have little need for CLEAR.” I disagree! I have both, and many times the TSA line is long and I glide through with Clear.

Great news to hear Clear is coming to ORD and EWR.

It looks like the UA pricing is the same as DL (but DL beat them to it):

I got Clear in 2018 for $99 simply by setting up a DL Sky Miles account. Family members = $50.

January 2019 (I now have a DL Gold card), and the renewal rate was $79 + $50 (family). Looks like that may have gone up to $109 now.

I look at CLEAR as a bit of an extra insurance policy. If the TSA PreCheck lines are long, then hopefully CLEAR will get me through just a tad quicker.
