Heading east this spring?  Here’s an easy way to save a LOT of money at Starwood hotels!

Via Points, Miles & Martinis, Starwood is having a fantastic promotion at many of their hotels in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East, through June 1, 2017.  You can get up to 2 free nights at participating Starwood hotels just by typing in a promotion code and using a MasterCard!

I’ll give you the details of this promotion!

Easy Way to Get Free Nights

Link:   Starwood Spring Promotion

MasterCard cardholders headed to Africa, Europe, or the Middle East this spring can get a nice discount on bookings and stays made by June 1, 2017, at participating Starwood hotels!  There are 3 different ways to save:

Buy 2 nights, get the 3rd free
  • Advance reservation is required
  • Only valid for a 3-night stay
  • Enter promotion code “M3D
Buy 3 nights, get the 4th free
  • Advance reservation is required
  • Only valid for a 4-night stay
  • Enter promotion code “C1A
Buy 4 Nights, Receive 2 Free Nights Offer
  • Advance reservation is required
  • Only valid for a 6-night stay
  • Enter promotion code “C3M

Here are the details:

  • Full pre-payment for all accommodation must be made using a Mastercard
  • Only valid for bookings and stays made until June 1, 2017
  • Not valid for bookings for groups of 5 rooms or more.
  • There are no credits for any unused free nights if the guest checks out early
  • These offers are based on Starwood’s best available unrestricted retail rates.
  • Reservations cannot be changed, are pre-paid, and are non-refundable
  • Not to be combined with other offers or promotions and subject to change

Team member Joseph used a similar Starwood promotion last year in Dubai, and coupled it with the Citi Prestige 4th night free perk.  Because Starwood averaged the savings over a 4-night period (instead of actually charging $0 the 4th night), he was able to get the discounted 4th night for free!  And this promotion is likely similar.

Joseph Booked 4 Nights in an Apartment at the Sheraton, and Used a Promotion Code and the Citi Prestige 4th Night Free to Reserve the Stay for Nearly 50% Off

This promotion is a little unclear, though.  With each promotion code, it shows the average cost per night you’ll be charged above the “Reserve” button.  But it does NOT show an average cost per night below the “Reserve” button.

Will I Earn Elite Credits on These Stays?

The terms state you will NOT get additional credits if you check out early.  This implies that you’ll receive elite night credits for these nights.  Which means you’d be able to use this promotion to help you cheaply earn Starwood elite status with the current Starwood elite status challenge!

And, if you leave the hotel early and do NOT check out, the hotel will likely give you credits for the whole stay.  So even if you’re only planning to stay 2 nights, you can possibly use this promotion to book 3 nights, and get the extra elite credit as long as you don’t check out when you leave early.

Note:   You will NOT be able to use your AMEX Starwood cards to reserve with this promotion, because they are NOT MasterCard credit cards.

Bottom Line

You can get 1 or 2 free nights with Starwood’s new promotion!

MasterCard cardholders can get this discount on bookings and stays made by June 1, 2017, at participating Starwood hotels in Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.   Just book your hotels through this link, or enter the above promotion codes through the hotel’s website.

General question regarding SPG non-refundable bookings: I notice many of their properties require prepayment and are non-refundable. Why do you think this is so common amongst SPG properties? It makes me hesitant to book.
