Via FlyerTalk, there are rumors of an exciting new Chase travel credit card that may be released within the next month.  This is NOT official or confirmed!

While many details are not yet available, Chase filed a trademark application in June 2016 for the card name Sapphire Reserve.  And folks on say the new card could have a 100,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards point sign-up bonus!

Potential New Chase Sapphire Reserve Card

Link:   Why Chase Ultimate Rewards Is My Favorite Points Program

Folks on Reddit and FlyerTalk are saying the new card will be an upgraded version of the Chase Sapphire Preferred card.  There are rumors it’ll be called the Chase Sapphire Reserve or Chase Sapphire Elite.  And that it’ll be open to sign-ups on August 21, 2016.

Perks are expected to be similar to the AMEX Platinum and Citi Prestige.  This new Chase card will have an annual fee of ~$300 or ~$400, which is similar to premium cards from other banks.

This could be a great time for Chase to offer a new card with extra benefits following the announcement of negative changes to the Citi Prestige.

Earning Chase Ultimate Rewards Points From a New Chase Credit Card Would Be a Great Addition to My Favorite Points Program!

There’s no word yet if card applications will be impacted by Chase’s stricter application rules.

If you’ve opened ~5 or more credit cards from any bank (excluding certain business cards) in the past 24 months, it’s unlikely you’ll be approved for most Chase cards.

I’ll be sure to update y’all when I find out more!

I for one really hope that they offer a promotion to upgrade people from Sapphire Preferred to Sapphire Reserve.

Do Hyatt credit cards fall under the 5/24 rule?

Angelo – Depends on the card. Not all co-brand cards fall under the 5/24, like IHG card for example I was able to get even though I had 15+ new cards in the previous 24 months. It started out mainly being the Chase Ultimate Rewards cards, now it seems to be slowly spreading into some of the co-brand cards like Southwest, United, Marriott, etc.

Unless the 5/24 rule changes for this card, there are going to be a number of unhappy travel hackers if this really ends up being a 100k bonus offer.

I really don’t understand the 5/24 rule as I have been approved for 3 chase cards in the last 6 months and I was over the 5/24 rule by a lot and all they did was shift my credit through my 4 current to the 2 new and the business one got a large limit on its own since I have didn’t have anymore business ones as I churned them. Am I missing something?

This would be awesome if it weren’t for the 5/24 we don’t want your business rule.
