You can now transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points directly to Aer Lingus and Iberia!
That means Chase now has 9 airline transfer partners to choose from.Normally, the addition of 2 airline partners would be thrilling news. But what some may not realize is that both of these airlines have already been indirect Chase transfer partners.
British Airways, Aer Lingus, and Iberia use the same points currency (called Avios). You can freely transfer Avios points between these airlines. So because British Airways was already a transfer partner of Chase, you’ve been able to convert Chase Ultimate Rewards points to British Airways Avios points, and then transfer those points to either Iberia or Aer Lingus.
Because of this, the addition of Aer Lingus and Iberia is not as exciting as you might first think. However, this will definitely save folks time, as they won’t have to go through the process of transferring British Airways Avios points to these airlines anymore.
Additionally, you can NOT transfer points between British Airways and Iberia unless both accounts have been open for at least 90 days. And each account must have previous activity (like earning or transferring points). So if you need Iberia Avios, you will no longer be restricted by this rule! Because you can transfer your points directly to Iberia now.
Want More Chase Ultimate Rewards Points?
There are plenty of credit cards that earn Chase Ultimate Rewards points:
- Chase Sapphire Reserve – Earn 50,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening
- Chase Sapphire Preferred– Earn 50,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points after spending $4,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening
- Chase Ink Business Preferred – Earn 80,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points after spending $5,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of account opening
However, if you’ve opened 5+ cards from any bank (NOT counting Chase business cards and these other business cards) in the past 24 months, it’s unlikely you’ll be approved for any of them.
Bottom Line
You can now transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points directly to Aer Lingus and Iberia!
You could already indirectly transfer points to these airlines, by first transferring them to British Airways. But this is gives folks a more convenient option! And more transfer partners is ALWAYS a good thing.
What do you think about this latest addition from Chase?
