Iberia Award Sale: Only 25,500 Miles in Business Class to Europe With Transferable Credit Card Rewards

If you’ve been keeping an eye out for good deals to Europe you’re in luck!  Through March 27, 2019, Iberia is discounting award flights from the US to Madrid by 25%.  And this discount applies to all classes of service, so you could even book some cheap Business Class seats with easy to earn travel credit card rewards.

Even if Madrid isn’t your final destination, a deal like this can be a good way to get to Europe and from there, finding cheap flights on discount carriers can be easy.  The email I got about this offer says it’s only available for Iberia members in the US.

Iberia Award Sale – Use Easy to Earn Credit Card Rewards

Book by:   March 27, 2019 Travel dates:   September 1 to December 31, 2019 Terms:   21-day advance purchase and Friday stay required You can get 25% off awards to Madrid from:

• Boston
• Chicago
• Los Angeles
• Miami
• New York

The discount applies to one-way or round-trip tickets.  Note that Iberia does add surcharges to award flights, which usually run $100 to $200 round-trip.

Because Iberia operates a distance-based award chart, the price for award flights varies depending on the distance traveled.  Flights from New York, Boston, or Chicago normally cost:

• 17,000 Avios points one-way in economy (Off-Peak)
• 20,000 Avios points one-way in economy (Peak)
• 34,000 Avios points one-way in Business Class (Off-Peak)
• 50,000 Avios points one-way in Business Class (Peak)

So with this promotion, you could book the same off-peak flights for 12,750 points in economy and 25,500 points in Business Class.

Iberia flights to/from Miami or Los Angeles normally cost:

• 21,250 Avios points one-way in economy (Off-Peak)
• 25,000 Avios points one-way in economy (Peak)
• 42,500 Avios points one-way in Business Class (Off-Peak)
• 62,500 Avios points one-way in Business Class (Peak)

With a 25% discount, you’d only need to pay ~15,938 points in economy or 31,875 points in Business Class during off-peak dates.

Iberia Avios points are easy to come by, so collecting the points you need for this sale likely won’t be an issue for most.  You can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards, AMEX Membership Rewards, and Marriott points to Iberia.  And don’t forget that British Airways (or Aer Lingus) Avios will transfer to Iberia as well.  But there are some tricky rules to be aware of – check out this guide for more details on transferring points from British Airways to Iberia.
