Here’s what you need to know.

20% Off Points & Cash Bookings for Chase IHG Cardholders

Link:   IHG Points & Cash Trick

IHG has released another promotion exclusively for Chase IHG cardmembers!  For a limited time, you’ll get 20% off Points & Cash bookings.

There is no direct offer link, but you should see the discount when you’re booking a Points & Cash reservation.

Here are the details:

  • You must be logged-in to receive the discount
  • This offer expires September 30, 2017
  • The 20% discount is only applied to the cash portion of the price (you won’t pay 20% fewer IHG points)
  • Other general IHG Terms and Conditions apply

This is an even better deal than the previous IHG Points & Cash promotion, which gave folks a 15% discount.

Use This Promotion With the IHG “Points & Cash Trick”

You can usually buy IHG points for between 1.15 and 1.35 cents each.  But by using the IHG Points & Cash trick, you can “buy” points for as little as 0.6 cents each!

For example, you can book a room with Points & Cash at the Intercontinental Carlton Cannes for 40,000 IHG points plus $120.  This room normally costs 60,000 IHG points.

But if you cancel your booking, you will NOT get a refund on the cash portionInstead, you’ll get to keep the points.  So you’re essentially purchasing 20,000 IHG points (60,000 IHG points – 40,000 IHG points) for $120.  That’s ~0.6 cents per point (20,000 IHG points / $120).

Book a Points & Cash Stay at The InterContinental Carlton Cannes, and Cancel It to Buy Points at a Discount

But if you use this promotion AND the Points & Cash trick, you’ll pay even less for your IHG points!

During this promotion, you’ll get 20% off the $120 cost of the cash portion of the booking (~$96).  So you’re essentially buying those same 20,000 IHG points for ~$96, or 0.48 cents per point.

If you’re comfortable using this method to buy IHG points, it’s a great way to use this limited-time promotion to “buy” IHG points you can use long after the promotion ends.  And for folks who have a Points & Cash stay planned anyway, this is a great discount!

Note:   If you don’t have the Chase IHG card, you can currently earn 80,000 bonus points after spending $1,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of account opening.  And you’ll also get perks like a free night at ANY IHG hotel each cardmember anniversary.

Bottom Line

Until September 30, 2017, IHG is giving Chase IHG cardholders a 20% discount on the cash portion of Points & Cash bookings.  Just log-in to the IHG website, and you’ll see the discount during the booking process!

You can couple this promotion with the IHG Points & Cash trick to buy points for less than 0.5 cents each!  IHG normally sells points for up to 1.35 cents each, so that’s an excellent deal.

Will this promotion save you money on your upcoming travel?

Beware. My IHG account was hacked today. Those 4-digit PIN’s are an invitation to hackers.

Has anyone found any locations under $92 for 20,000?

IHG Rewards Club associate had no idea about this promotion. Asked me to send screen shots of what i was looking at. I could not see this discount for any hotels in Dallas, Chicago, New York or San Fran.

Holiday Inn San Francisco Civic Center
=> price comes down $92 for 20,000pts if you choose 3 nights
Same for Carlton Cannes by the way.

IHG hotels are wonderfully all over the place on price vs. rewards values. At .5 cents I found several in AZ that were 1/4 of cash cost.

The Berlin West HI is $150 or 10,000 points ! Many other hotels are bargains on points.

Two big things on rewards:

1. There is no sales tax which usually saves you another 10%.
2. Rewards are usually cancellable later than other rates.

IHG knows what they’re doing, they’ve done this a couple prior times. They’re counting on many people stashing IHG points they’ll never use.

It’s a shame Choice is so dumb as to have cancelled this revenue-maker.
