Through September 25, 2017, you’ll get a 100% bonus when you buy at least 4,000 Flying Blue miles.
Flying Blue miles normally cost 2.75 cents each. But this 100% bonus brings the price down to just ~1.38 cents each. That’s the highest bonus I’ve ever seen from Flying Blue!
Just note, you will NOT receive this bonus if you’re gifting miles to a friend.
Is This a Good Deal?
A 100% bonus on purchased miles is a really nice deal. And it’s a good opportunity for folks who want more miles to top-off their account for an award flight. Or, if you’d rather not pay cash for an otherwise expensive Business or First Class ticket.
Normally, it costs 62,500 Flying Blue miles to fly one-way from the US to Europe in Business Class. And buying 62,500 Flying Blue miles with this deal will cost ~$860.
That’s a great deal, because that same ticket can easily cost $2,500+!
The promotion becomes even more enticing when you couple it with Flying Blue’s Promo Awards!
Each month, Air France and KLM release discounted award tickets on certain routes, including flights between North America and Europe. And because Flying Blue considers countries like Algeria, Israel, and Morocco to be part of Europe, these discounted miles are even more tempting!
For example, through December 31, 2017, you can travel between Vancouver and Europe for just 46,875 miles one-way in Business Class. With this buy miles promotion, you could fly halfway across the Earth in Business Class from Vancouver to Israel for just ~$646 one-way (46,875 miles X ~1.38 cents each).
That said, taxes & fees can be very high, depending on the route. Surcharges can be ~$200+ for a one-way Business Class flight (~$400 round-trip). So take that into account before you decide to buy miles.
I would NOT recommend taking advantage of this deal if you plan on using these miles for domestic US flights. Flying Blue charges 12,500 miles one-way in coach for domestic flights on Delta, so you’ll be paying ~$173 one-way (12,500 miles X ~1.38 cents per mile).
Depending on the route you fly, that may save you some money. But you’ll be subject to available award seats, and you won’t earn any miles for your flight!
Want More Flying Blue Miles?
If you don’t want to buy Flying Blue miles, there are plenty of other ways to earn them! The 4 major flexible points programs transfer to Flying Blue at a ratio of 1:1. You can transfer:
- Chase Ultimate Rewards points – You’ll need either the Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Ink Business Preferred, Chase Ink Plus (no longer available), or Chase Ink Bold (no longer available)
- Citi ThankYou Points – You’ll need the Citi Prestige or Citi ThankYou Premier Card
- AMEX Membership Rewards points – You’ll need cards like the The Platinum Card® from American Express, Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express, etc.
- Starwood points – If you transfer 20,000 Starwood points at a time, you’ll get a 5,000 mile bonus.
Bottom Line
Air France and KLM are having a very generous sale on Flying Blue miles! Through September 25, 2017, you’ll earn 100% bonus miles when you purchase at least 4,000 miles.
If you need to top off your Flying Blue account for a certain award flight, or if you want to fly Business or First Class at a discount, this sale is for you! But award seats are NOT always available on the dates you want them, so make sure the seats you want are available before you buy.
You’ll get even more for your money if you combine this discount with Flying Blue’s Promo Awards!
Let me know if this deal helps your upcoming travel plans!
