After February 28, 2018, Discover plans to remove 5 benefits from their credit cards, including auto rental insurance and extended product warranty.
Discover Card Eliminates 5 Benefits!
A few weeks ago I told you that Discover will no longer match the referral bonuses and resulting sign-up bonuses from the Discover It at the end of your first cardmember year beginning January 1, 2018.Now, Discover will be removing 5 more benefits after February 28, 2018. Wave goodbye to:
- Extended Product Warranty
- Return Guarantee
- Purchase Protection
- Auto Rental Insurance
- Flight Accident Insurance
Discover says not many folks are taking advantage of these benefits. And they’d rather focus on other perks folks use more often, like their Fraud Liability Guarantee and account monitoring.
For folks that regularly took advantage of these benefits to save money, this is a bummer. But there are still lots of other cards that offer similar (and much better!) perks. So you still have options.
For example, the Chase Sapphire Preferred comes with primary rental car insurance and extended warranty benefits.
Bottom Line
After February 28, 2018, Discover is removing 5 benefits from their credit cards. Discover cardholders will be losing:
- Extended Product Warranty
- Return Guarantee
- Purchase Protection
- Auto Rental Insurance
- Flight Accident Insurance
Discover may replace these unused benefits with other perks they think will be more popular. We’ll have to wait and see!
For folks who regularly took advantage of these benefits to save cash, this isn’t good news. But there are still lots of other credit cards that offer similar perks! So not all is lost!
