Bad News for Families: Chase Ultimate Rewards Points No Longer Work for Disney Purchases

If you’ve been saving your Chase Ultimate Rewards points to book a Disney resort stay or cruise adventure, it’s no longer possible.   Everything Disney-related disappeared from the Chase travel portal – and calling to book over the phone doesn’t work, either.

Losing an option is always bad news, but this one stings more because of the no-notice change.  Luckily you can still use points to cover Disney purchases if you have another card like the Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card.

Disney Is Gone From the Chase Travel Portal Without Notice

Heretofore, you could use Chase Ultimate Rewards points to book Disney-related travel, like cruises or stays at their resorts.  Disney is ever-popular, so there’s no doubt some folks were saving their points to help offset the cost of a Disney vacation.

Chase is in the middle of upgrading their travel booking site, so we thought this might be a temporary glitch.  But even on cards that have already transitioned to the new way of booking, Disney isn’t showing up in searches.  And calling to book, which used to work, no longer does.

If there’s one thing all miles & points collectors can’t stand, it’s changes without notice.  Perhaps this change was out of Chase’s hands.  But whatever the case, something that used to be possible no longer works, and that stinks.

But the good news is you can use other points to save on Mickey magic!

Use Other Points for Disney Travel

Remember, you can use points earned with the Barclaycard Arrival Plus World Elite Mastercard (our review) and Capital One® Venture® Rewards Credit Card (our review) to offset any travel purchase.

The trick is to make sure the purchase codes as “travel.”  You can use a reputable Disney booking site like Undercover Tourist to make sure you can use points for Disney fun.

And if you have the Capital One® Savor® Cash Rewards Credit Card, you’ll earn 4% cash back on entertainment.  That should cover theme park purchases.  But if there’s any doubt, see if you can make a small test purchase before you jump in all the way.  Then use the rewards you earn for a statement credit!

Of course, if the Chase points booking option returns, we’ll be sure you tell you about it.  But unfortunately, this seems like a deliberate move.  At least you can still book with other rewards cards, so you can update your strategy if Disney is your travel goal.
