It’s shocking how lightweight The Platinum Card® from American Express is, considering the heaping quantity of benefits inside the card.
From unmatched airport lounge access to hundreds in airline credits to hotel elite status, the card can quite easily make up for its annual fee if you’re a travel enthusiast like the Million Mile Secrets team.
And one benefit, the annual $200 in Uber credits, is getting a slight change. If you don’t know about this change, it could result in you accidentally paying for an Uber out of pocket!
With the AMEX Platinum‘s Uber credit benefit, you’ll receive a free $15 per month in Uber rides (and $35 in December).
Previously, to activate the credits, you simply needed to select your AMEX Platinum in the Uber app to pay for your ride. But now, AMEX is depositing the credit to your “Uber Cash” balance. So you’ll have to manually choose the credit if you want to use it.
Overall, this seems like good news, as you’ll be able to choose when you want to use the credit. So if you’re away for a business trip, you won’t accidentally use it on an expense that you wouldn’t have paid anyway!
The credits are still “use them or lose them” each month. So you won’t be able to save $200 in credits for your big trip to New York in December.
So now, if you want to use your credit you’ll have to choose Uber Cash as your payment method. Then, if your ride costs more than the AMEX credit, you can just click “refill options” and “just cover this trip“.
It sounds like some folks may have lost a credit last month because AMEX and Uber didn’t communicate this change!
