Consumer transparency is always a welcome change!  Now, AMEX is sending emails with a minimum spending tracker so you can be sure to earn your intro bonus.  And folks report seeing it on the AMEX website, too.

Hopefully this is a new feature rolling out across all AMEX cards.

What’s neat is the email tracker updates with your progress automatically.  So you can save and refer to it until you see your welcome bonus appear.

New Ways to Track Spending Are a Win for Consumers, Even If They’re as Simple as Automatic Email Updates

I love customer-friendly changes like this!

Keep an Eye on Your Inbox to Track American Express Minimum Spending

This isn’t a huge change.  But it’s the little things that count!

Before, AMEX left it up to you to calculate how much you had spent toward completing minimum spending requirements when you open a new card.  That’s important to know so you don’t miss out on big welcome bonuses!

Automatic Trackers Are Awesome, but You Can Also Add It up the Old Fashioned Way 😉

Folks report getting emails with a tracker that shows exactly how much you’ve spent.  Even better, this email pulls from a piece of code on an AMEX server and updates automatically.  So you can add a star or flag and keep it as reference as you spend.

Others say there’s a tracker in their online accounts.  I Hope this rolls out across the AMEX website and all cards soon.

While the tracker Is a handy feature, you can also calculate the minimum spending by adding up the new charges from your monthly statements.  It’s not as high-tech, but it works in a pinch to make sure you earn your valuable intro offers!

Keep These in Mind!

Remember, your annual fee does NOT count toward your minimum spending.  Neither do cash advances, cash-like instruments like certain gift cards, or money orders.  Returns don’t count, either.

And the clock starts ticking on your minimum spending time period when you are approved, not when you receive or activate your new card.

AMEX already tells you if you’re eligible to earn a welcome offer.  So this new change, while small, is a nice move toward giving folks more information in new, easy-to-understand ways.

Have you gotten a tracker email yet, or do you see it when you log into your online account?
