7 Outdoor Concert Venues You Should Visit This Fall

The US is the mecca of AWESOME outdoor concert venues.  You can watch live shows with some of your favorite artists in places that are unlike anywhere in the world.

Personally, I love going to concerts at outdoor venues as summer nears an end.  

Below are the 7 of the best places to listen to live music outdoors that you should consider visiting this fall! 

1.   The Gorge Amphitheater, Washington 

The Gorge Amphitheater is a sweet spot to get your groove on.  And it might be the most picturesque venue in the world. 

The Gorge holds 27,500 people and has been called one of the most scenic locations to see music on planet earth.  The venue has won numerous awards and sits on the most visually attractive piece of land a person could dream of.  

Fans can come for an evening or stay in the designated Gorge Campground for 24 hours on the day of a single show or until noon the day after a show.  Camping is optional and can be purchased for an extra fee, but highly recommended.  There are also places for RV hookups and the campgrounds have a basketball court, volleyball court, and 24-hour security.  There are multiple different tiers of camping and even an option for glamping if you’re so inclined. 

This fall you can go see Journey and Def Leppard, The Avett Brothers with The Head And The Heart, Dave Matthews Band, and Guns N’ Roses.

2.    Red Rocks Amphitheater, Colorado

Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison, Colorado is only a 20 minute drive from of Denver and is a music-goers paradise.  It’s been around since the early 1900s and has hosted everyone from The Beatles to Jimmy Hendrix to U2, The Grateful Dead and every electronic DJ under the sun.

Red Rocks holds concerts rain or shine in an amphitheater surrounded by huge vertical, red rock angled outwards from the stage, which makes the acoustic sounds vibrate off the walls and melt your heart.  Not only can you see live music, but you can also look out and see the Denver skyline amongst a full sky of stars. 

Being from Colorado, and an avid concert goer, Red Rocks is at top of my list and my favorite concert venue.  You can take a bus or Uber to get to the venue so you don’t have to drive.  If you decide to drive, there are different parking options where you can tailgate, pregame and hang out before the show starts.  I would highly recommend spending time in the parking lots and people watching before your show.

3.   Greek Theater, California

If you live on the West Coast and haven’t been to the Greek Theater you’re missing out.  The 5,870-seat venue located in Griffith Park, Los Angeles is used for concerts, stage shows, plays, ceremonies and local acts. 

It’s often been called the best small outdoor venue in the west and is one of the nation’s most beloved and recognized outdoor entertainment spots.

This concert venue allows you to experience intimate shows, plays, and entertainment during the spring, summer and fall.

If you don’t have time to eat dinner before the show, the Greek Theatre offers express dining where you can pre-order food before the show and enjoy anything from Steak Salad to Vegan Tempeh Lasagna to Tiramisu.

This fall you can watch Lindsey Stirling and Evanescence, Leon Bridges, Arcade Fire, and Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band.

4. Ravina Festival, Illinois

Ravina Festival holds outdoor concerts every summer from June to September and features famous musicians, artists, and local bands.  It is also the oldest outdoor music festival ground in the United States, so definitely worth a visit.

Ravina allows attendees to bring full meals and alcohol into the concert venue.  People often bring picnic blankets and chairs, home cooked food and comfort amenities from home to enjoy while listening to the show.  The venue is intimate, every seat is good, the views are spectacular and the sound echo’s perfectly into your ears.

I would highly recommend bringing food, beverages, chairs and a warm jacket to the venue so you can enjoy a nice meal while jamming to music and hanging out with your friends.

5.   Hollywood Bowl, California

The Hollywood Bowl is an amphitheater located in Los Angeles and of the most famous outdoor concert venues.  The “bowl” refers to the shape of the amphitheater and folks far and wide have performed here including Los Angeles Philharmonic, Billie Holiday, Van Halen and Alicia Keys. 

The bowl hosts everything from concerts and orchestras to sing-a-long music performances, which are perfect for families with young kids.

This fall go see Dave Matthews Band, The War on Drugs, Florence + The Machine, Beck, and Dierks Bentley.

6.   Fiddlers Green Amphitheater, Colorado

Fiddler’s Green Amphitheater, open every year from May to September, holds 18,000 people and is the largest amphitheater in the Denver area.

It was originally designed to host symphonies and community festivals but soon became much bigger and now hosts acts like Maroon 5 and John Mayer.  The picturesque layout includes rolling hills on grassy slopes with views of the Colorado Rocky Mountains.  Fiddler’s Green has one night concerts and multiple day music festivals and you can see any kind of music there from rock and roll to smooth jazz.

Concerts this year include Dave Matthews Band, Boy George and Culture Club, Waka Flocka Flame and Chase Rice.

7.   MECU Pavilion, Maryland

If you haven’t seen live music at the MECU Pavilion (formerly known as Pier 6 Pavillion), I would put it on your bucket list immediately.  MECU is Baltimore’s premier outdoor concert pavilion showcasing the best hip-hop, country, reggae, and rock n’ roll acts for over 36 years.

The biggest names in music have played at this venue, which offers stunning views of the harbor and shows off Baltimore’s daunting skyline. It’s hard not to get distracted by the views when watching live music and with a capacity of only 4,000, every show feels intimate.

Before the season ends go see Umphreys McGee, Maxwell or Anthony Hamilton with Special Guest En Vogue.
