At long last, JetBlue will begin flying to London later this year!! Beginning Aug. 12, 2021, you can fly between New York and London Heathrow. And beginning Sept. 30, you can fly between New York and London Gatwick. You can book these flights as of today.

That means you can finally book JetBlue Mint across the Atlantic with points you earn from some of the best travel credit cards — provided the coronavirus lockdowns ease up by then.

JetBlue’s first class cabin is better than first class. It’s Mint. This cleverly named cabin is a premium travel experience, but seats are only available on select JetBlue Mint routes. While it isn’t always worth it to upgrade to Mint class using miles, using points or cash to score a seat is definitely worth your while. There truly is no place like Mint, and here’s why. 

What is JetBlue’s Mint class?

Mint class is JetBlue’s premium cabin and, arguably, the best seats you’ll find on an airplane. But, Mint class is not available on all flights, so be sure to check out the JetBlue Mint routes before you book. If you are lucky enough to be on a flight that offers Mint class, you can expect a luxury travel experience. 

Inside JetBlue’s Mint class, you will be met with the longest fully lie-flat seat on any domestic premium flight. These seats recline to a full 6’8” and have adjustable firmness cushions plus a massage feature. 

And, if you want to take the experience to the next level, you can upgrade to a suite seat with a door for extra privacy.  

In addition to having the largest bed on any domestic premium flight, JetBlue Mint seats also boast the largest TV on any domestic flight at 22” (on some flights) and 17” or 15” on other routes. Each TV has free on-demand movies, shows and live TV. 

As if this already wasn’t enough, JetBlue is upgrading their Mint suites on select flights starting this year. In the new Mint suites, there will not only be a lie flat bed and TV, but there will also be an extra seat for a guest and a workspace all inside the suite. These new, mini apart-mints will be available on flights from the U.S. to London and select JFK-LAX routes.

How do I travel in Mint class?

If this is all sounding pretty good to you, you’re probably wondering how you can travel in JetBlue’s first class, Mint. Your first step to traveling in Mint class is to make sure it’s available on the flight you’re trying to book because only select routes have Mint. In terms of actually booking, you have the three traditional options: booking with points, booking with miles, or paying cash for a Mint seat.

It’s important to note that JetBlue doesn’t have the traditional award chart you may be used to seeing on other airlines. Instead, the price you pay in points or miles is tied to the seat’s cash price. This system has positives and negatives. On the pros side, there are no blackout dates on JetBlue, so if you can book a seat with cash, you can also do it with points or miles. On the cons side, you can only use one type of payment for your ticket. If you want to upgrade to Mint and you paid in cash, you have to upgrade in cash. The same goes for if you booked in JetBlue points. While cash prices are (understandably) pretty high for Mint and your miles can likely be used a better way, JetBlue points are a great way to score a Mint seat.

The easiest way to earn JetBlue points and book a flight on Mint class is by getting a JetBlue credit card. An excellent option for earning is the JetBlue Plus Card. The perks of JetBlue Mint class are extensive and impressive. Here’s just a few to get you excited for your future luxury travel. 

The best seats on a domestic airline: Every single seat in JetBlue’s Mint cabin extends fully back to a lengthy 6’8”. Each seat also comes with adjustable firmness cushions and a massage feature. Plus, on all flights, Mint cabin travelers will get a Tuft & Needle-designed comforter and pillow. And, if you want extra privacy, you can even book a suite seat with a door. Gourmet, restaurant quality, food and drinks: JetBlue has partnered with Delicious Hospitality Group to bring New York City restaurants on board their aircraft. Some featured restaurants include Charlie Bird, Pasquale and Legacy Records. Mint’s rotating menu of small plates currently features delicacies like lobster, beef tenderloin, and chocolate opera cake. As if that wasn’t good enough, the partnership also extends to alcohol to include an artisan wine list and hand-shaken cocktails. Yum!

Quality entertainment: With either a 22”, 17” or 15” TV at your seat, Mint class will feel like you’re still in your living room. The Mint entertainment systems feature hundreds of on-demand movies, TV shows, curated content, and even live TV. The systems even have meditation and sleepscapes for those red-eye flights. And, each guest will get noise-isolating headphones from NYC’s Master & Dynamic!

Personalized service just for you: One of the best things about a first class trip on any airline is the personalized experience. JetBlue’s Mint class is no exception to this rule, as there will be a flight attendant dedicated to this class. Fewer passengers per flight attendant automatically make for better service, but JetBlue goes an extra mile beyond that. With small touches like wellness and snooze kits for all passengers, parting touchdown treats, and a Do Not Disturb button, you’ll truly feel like royalty in Mint class. 

An easier airport experience: The luxury of Mint class doesn’t start when you get on the plane; it starts before. With two free checked bags, expedited check-in, priority boarding and lounge access while awaiting your flight, the pampering begins as soon as you enter the airport. 

COVID and Mint customers

Luckily for Mint passengers, the JetBlue first class experience has not changed much due to the pandemic. While most other airlines have limited or stopped their meal service, the Mint cabin still offers a complete rotational menu to all travelers. Their comfort experience hasn’t changed either, with all Mint travelers still receiving a comforter, pillow and pre-packaged snooze kit. Even though the Mint experience is the same, their policies have gotten a lot safer with the pandemic.

For starters, JetBlue conducts daily temperature checks, requiring masks and providing paid sick leave for all employees to ensure those serving you are healthy. The airline also requires all passengers to wear masks while onboard and has upgraded their air filtration systems on all planes. Plus, passengers must also complete a health declaration form before boarding and use touchless checkpoints during the boarding process.
