Heads up! The Citi Hilton cards may be going away much more quickly than we thought!
While this could be a browser issue, the fact that the cards have also disappeared from Hilton’s website strongly suggests the cards are being pulled in the near future. So if you’ve been considering applying, I’d do so sooner than later.
I’ll help you decide if it’s worth applying for these cards while they’re still available!
Citi Hilton Cards Disappearing
Link: Citi® Hilton HHonors™ Reserve Card (Safari only)
Last week, I shared the news that the Citi Hilton cards would be discontinued by the end of 2017. That’s because Hilton will be partnering exclusively with American Express, starting January 1, 2018.
It’s now much harder to find working links for the Citi Hilton cards. Previous links now automatically re-direct to the main Citi credit card page, unless you use Safari.
I’m not surprised these links are disappearing with no warning, because banks have been known to pull links without notice. But I didn’t expect it to happen so quickly.
That said, folks on Reddit suggest this could be a browser or website update issue. I disagree, because the cards have also vanished from Hilton’s credit card page.
Should You Consider the Citi Hilton Cards?
If you don’t already have these cards, or haven’t opened or closed a Citi Hilton card in the past 24 months, I’d definitely consider applying.
I recommend the Citi Hilton Reserve card, because you get 2 weekend night certificates at nearly any Hilton hotel after spending $2,500 in purchases within 4 months of account opening. It also comes with free Hilton Gold elite status (free internet & breakfast).
The $95 annual fee is NOT waived the first year. You can read my full card review here.
If you prefer a no-annual-fee card, the Citi Hilton Visa has a sign-up bonus of 50,000 Hilton points after spending $1,000 on purchases in the first 4 months of opening your account. This isn’t the highest bonus we’ve seen on the card, but I doubt we’ll see a higher offer before the card is removed for good.
It’s still not clear what will happen to existing Citi Hilton cardholders (or new applicants). I’ll let you know when I find out more.
Because American Express and Hilton reached an exclusive agreement starting January 1, 2018, we knew the Citi Hilton cards would be discontinued some time this year. But I’m surprised at how soon this is happening.
If you’ve been considering these cards, I’d apply soon. There’s no telling how long these links will last.
Let me know if you’re able to apply!
