Can you have both the Gold Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card from American Express and Platinum Delta SkyMiles® Credit Card at the same time?Yes, you can! That’s because the AMEX Gold Delta SkyMiles card and AMEX Platinum Delta SkyMiles card are different credit card products.
I’ll explain why. And give you some ideas of how to spend your Delta miles!
Can’t Choose Between the Increased Delta AMEX Sign-up Bonuses? You Don’t Have To!

Both the AMEX Delta Gold and Delta Platinum credit cards have increased sign-up bonuses for a limited time!
With the AMEX Delta Gold, you’ll earn 50,000 Delta miles after spending $2,000 in purchases within the first 3 months, and a $50 statement credit on a Delta purchase in the first 3 months.
And with the AMEX Delta Platinum, you’ll earn 70,000 Delta miles and 10,000 Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) after spending $5,000 within the first 3 months. You’ll also get a $100 statement credit when you make a Delta purchase in the first 3 months.
And you can have both cards at once, because American Express considers them different credit card products. So you can get 120,000 Delta miles from signing-up for both credit cards!
Remember, AMEX will only process 1 credit card application every 7 days. So if you try and apply for both cards on the same day, the second card will be processed after 7 days.
American Express will only allow you to have 5 credit cards with them at once (not including charge cards like The Platinum Card from American Express). So if you already have 5 AMEX credit cards, you can cancel 1 of them before applying for 1 of these cards.
Keep in mind, American Express only allows folks to get the sign-up bonus ONCE per person, per lifetime, on ALL their cards. So if you’ve had either card before, you will NOT be eligible to earn the sign-up bonus again.
What Can You Do With 120,000 Delta Miles?
You can get Big Travel by signing-up for both the AMEX Delta Gold and Delta Platinum credit cards. With 120,000 Delta miles, you can get:
- $1,200 off paid airfare with Delta
- 2 coach round-trip tickets to Europe from the US
- First Class ticket from the US to Hong Kong (with 40,000 miles left over!)
- 6 round-trip tickets in coach for a family trip from Chicago to Toronto
Bottom Line
You can have both the AMEX Delta Gold and AMEX Delta Platinum at the same time. And with the limited-time increased welcome bonuses, you’ll receive 120,000 Delta miles if you sign-up for both cards!
You can only receive the sign-up bonus ONCE per person, per lifetime, on all AMEX cards. And AMEX will only let you hold 5 of their credit cards at once. So if you already have 5 AMEX cards, you should cancel 1 of them before applying for an AMEX Delta card.
Thanks for the question, Fran!
