Citi ThankYou points are on the rise.
It’s been a while since we’ve see a truly unique credit card perk. Well, Citi has concocted a benefit that will make you want to swipe the card all the time.
On January 10, 2019, Citi released the no annual fee Citi Rewards+℠ Card. Among other solid benefits, the card rounds up the points you earn on a single purchase to nearest 10 points. In other words, if you buy a pack of gum for $1, you’ll earn 10 Citi ThankYou points!
That’s phenomenal, because Citi ThankYou points = free travel. Especially if you also have a card that enables you to transfer Citi ThankYou points to Citi’s travel partners like the:
Or
- Citi Prestige® Card
You can transfer ThankYou points to valuable airlines, like Flying Blue or JetBlue. And with the Citi Premier, you can spend your Citi ThankYou points through the Citi Travel Portal at a rate of 1.25 cents per point. I used the Citi ThankYou points I earned from the Citi Premier through the portal to receive a free rental car in Iceland!
The information for the Citi Prestige cards has been collected independently by Million Mile Secrets. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.
Citi Rewards+ Rounds Citi ThankYou Points Earnings to the Nearest 10
The Citi Rewards+℠ Card is a no-annual-fee credit card that comes with a welcome bonus of 15,000 Citi ThankYou points after spending $1,000 in purchases within the first 3 months of account opening. That’s swell and all, but the card perks are the exciting part.
The Citi Rewards+ Card will round up the points you earn on a single purchase to the nearest 10. If you spend $16, you’ll earn 20 points. If you spend $3, you’ll earn 10 points. That benefit alone will cause lots of folks to pull out the card often. You can use the Citi Rewards+ Card to effectively earn bonus points on purchases that don’t fall under bonus categories with your other cards.
This benefit obviously works best for small purchases. I find myself making small purchases frequently. For example, I could have used the card at Walgreens when I popped in to buy band-aids on my way home to earn 10 points from a ~$2.50 purchase. I could also make the card my default payment option for Google Play, and bank 10 Citi ThankYou points every time I impulsively buy a 99 cent app.
Additionally, the card earns 2 Citi ThankYou points per $1 at supermarkets and gas stations (though that bonus is capped at $6,000 per year, then 1X). Here are some other worthwhile benefits:
- 10% points rebate on the first 100,000 points you redeem each year
- Extended Warranty
- 90 Day Damage & Theft Purchase Protection (up to $10,000 per incident; up to $50,000 per year per Citi account)
- Early access to tickets and VIP experiences
Keep in mind, this is a no annual fee card. So you can keep it forever! Just note that if you’re new to miles & points, we recommend getting Chase cards first because if you’ve opened 5 or more credit cards from any bank (not including certain business credit cards) you won’t qualify for Chase cards.
