Jason:  Here’s a round-up of today’s miles & points news.

1.   Marriott Releases a Taste of New Award Chart

Link:   Marriott Unveils New Award Categories for 100 hotels

We don’t yet know what categories all the Marriott, Starwood, and Ritz-Carlton hotels will fall into when the new award chart goes into effect on August 1, 2018.  But today, they released a list of changes coming to 100 hotels in 5 top destinations:   Bali, New York City, Paris, Mexico and the Caribbean, and Dubai.

You can see the complete list here.  If you have any stays coming up in those destinations, check to see whether you should book your awards now or wait until after August 1, 2018.  One area where you can save big is at the top end of the chart.  Marriott won’t have category 8 pricing for their hotels until 2019!  So you can get some great deals on the top-tier hotels if you book after August 1, 2018, and before 2019!

Targeted AMEX Offer Up To 600 Or 60000 Points New Benefits Coming To The Citi American Airlines Card And A Preview Of Marriotts Award Category Changes
Later This Year You’ll Be Able to Get Some Great Deals at High-End Marriott Hotels, Like the St. Regis Bali!

Marriott has promised “more hotels moving down in redemption rates than up,” but I’d take that statement with a grain of salt.  I’m just as interested to see how much the increase and decrease will be for each hotel as I am to see the overall number of locations that change categories.

2.   HUGE Targeted AMEX Business Card AT&T Offer Earn up to $600 or 60,000 AMEX Membership Rewards Points!

Some folks are being targeted for an excellent AMEX Offer for paying your AT&T business internet bill.  If you qualify, you can get a $200 statement credit (or 20,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points, depending on your offer) for making a $200+ payment with your targeted AMEX card in one or more transactions.  There is a limit of $600 in statement credits (or 60,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points).  So you can get the deal up to 3 times.

Targeted AMEX Offer Up To 600 Or 60000 Points New Benefits Coming To The Citi American Airlines Card And A Preview Of Marriotts Award Category Changes
AT&T Business Internet Customers Need to Check Their AMEX Offers for This Spectacular Deal!

The deal expires on August 24, 2018.  If you’re targeted, be sure to read the offer terms because it doesn’t look like personal AT&T services will qualify for the offer.

This is an amazing deal!  You’re earning the equivalent of a good credit card welcome bonus for paying your AT&T business internet bill a few times.  I didn’t have the offer on any of my AMEX cards.  But I have Comcast internet service, so it doesn’t really matter.

3.   New Benefits Coming to the Citi American Airlines Platinum Select Card

If you’re planning on getting the Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite™ Mastercard®, you might want to hold off.  According to Frequent Miler, there are some new benefits and a new sign-up bonus that will be introduced on May 3, 2018.   We don’t know what the new bonus will be, but my hope is that it’s bigger than the current offer.

If you apply for the card on or after May 3, 2018, you’ll get 2 new benefits:

  • 2 American Airlines miles per $1 spent at gas stations and restaurants
  • $100 American Airlines flight credit when you renew the card and spend $20,000+ within a cardmember year

The annual fee will also be increasing from $95 to $99 per year.  The card will still have its old great perks like free checked bags, priority boarding, and 10% rebate on redeemed miles (up to 100,000 American Airlines miles per year).  So the $4 increase in the fee isn’t a big deal to me. The information for the Citi AAdvantage Platinum Select card has been collected independently by Million Mile Secrets. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

If you currently are a cardholder, your card won’t have these new benefits until July 22, 2018.

4.   New Hyatt Promotion

Link:   Bonus Hyatt Points Promotion

Between May 7 and July 31, 2018, you’ll earn 20% more Hyatt points on stays at Hyatt Place Las Vegas and participating MGM Resorts in Las Vegas.  Participating resorts include:

  • MGM Grand
  • The Signature at MGM Grand
  • Mandalay Bay
  • Delano Las Vegas
  • The Mirage

There’s no limit to the number of bonus Hyatt points you can earn!  So the more you spend, the more you’ll earn.
