Update:   One or more card offers in this post are no longer available.  Check our Hot Deals for the latest offers.

Via One Mile at a Time, the sign-up bonus on the Chase Hyatt card is changing.  And I suspect lots of folks won’t be happy with the change.

On June 29, 2017 (in just a few days!), you’ll NO longer earn 2 free nights at any Hyatt after meeting minimum spending requirements.  Instead, the card will come with a 40,000 Hyatt point sign-up bonus after spending $2,000 on purchases in the first 3 months of opening your account.

Chase Hyatt Card Changes
If You Want 2 Free Nights at the Park Hyatt Sydney, You’ll Have to Apply for the Chase Hyatt Card Sooner Rather Than Later!

Here’s more about this news.  And what it means for you.

New Hyatt Card Sign-Up Bonus

As of June 29, 2017, instead of the current 2 free nights sign-up bonus, you’ll earn 40,000 Hyatt points after spending $2,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of opening your Chase Hyatt card.

The card’s other perks will remain the same:

  • 3 Hyatt points per $1 spent at Hyatt hotels
  • 2 Hyatt points per $1 spent at restaurants, on airline tickets
purchased directly from airlines, and at car rental agencies
  • 1 Hyatt point per $1 spent on all other purchases
  • A free night at a Hyatt Category 1 to 4 hotel each cardmember year
  • Automatic Hyatt Discoverist elite status
  • 5,000 bonus Hyatt points when you add an authorized user and make a purchase within the first 3 months of account opening

And there will still be a $75 annual fee that’s NOT waived the first year.

Should You Apply Now?

If you’ve been considering this card, I’d apply before these changes go into effect.  Because the 2 free night certificates you’ll earn with the current sign-up bonus are good for ANY Hyatt hotel around the world!  Including Hyatt’s top-tier Category 6 and Category 7 hotels, which cost 25,000 or 30,000 Hyatt points per night.

You can read my full review of the Chase Hyatt card here.

That said, folks who like to stretch their points at lower-category hotels might welcome the change.  For example, with 40,000 Hyatt points, you could get 5 free nights at Hyatt category 2 hotels, like the Hyatt Regency Montreal.

And don’t forget, the Chase Hyatt is NOT affected by the 5/24 rule.  Plus, Chase usually allows folks to get the sign-up bonus on their cards again as long as you haven’t received the bonus in the previous 2 years AND you don’t have the card currently open.

Bottom Line

As of June 29, 2017, the Chase Hyatt card will no longer offer 2 free night certificates after meeting minimum spending requirements.

Instead, you’ll earn 40,000 bonus Hyatt points after spending $2,000 on purchases within the first 3 months of opening your Chase Hyatt card.

I’m happy that Hyatt has given everyone a heads-up!  So you can apply before the changes go into effect.

If I hit the spend for the new bonus in the first month, how soon would they credit the bonus points?

Thanks

My wife & I used our (4) Free Nights at the Park Hyatt Vendome in Paris in September of 2014. So if I understand it correctly, we could apply for the Hyatt Cards again and get another (4) Free Nights or 80,000 Points??

Is This Correct ????

Thank You, TWG

I had planned to apply for this card in the fall. I may do it now as two nights is worth more than 40k points for the hotel I’m looking at (Kauai). Does anyone know if it is possible and where to find out the cost of upgrading a room booked with free rewards (either in cash or points) from the ‘base’

p.s. thanks for the awesome info

Glad I used these for 2 nights at the Park Hyatt Sydney last year for an #unforgettablevacation.

So what do you get for the $75 in subsequent years?

You’ll still get the anniversary certificate for a free night at a Hyatt Category 1 to 4 hotel each cardmember year.
