Link:   How to Link Your Marriott & Starwood Accounts

If you’d like the ability to transfer Starwood points to another person, you’ll first have to link your Marriott and Starwood accounts.  It only takes a minute!

Then, you’ll be able to transfer points between your Starwood and Marriott accounts at a 1:3 ratio.  This means 1 Starwood point gets you 3 Marriott points and vice versa.

The reason for linking your accounts is you can transfer Marriott points to ANY other Marriott Rewards member.  But Starwood limits you to transferring points to someone in the same household!

So once you move your Starwood points to your Marriott account, you’ll have more flexibility to get your points to ANYONE.  Then, they can use Marriott points for award stays at Marriott.  Or transfer them to their own Starwood accounts!

Step 1 – Move Starwood Points to Marriott Account

First, you’ll want to transfer your Starwood points to your Marriott Rewards account.

On the Starwood website, click “Transfer Starpoints to Rewards Points” to get started.

Next, select the number of Starwood points you’d like to transfer.

You can transfer Starwood points to Marriott points in increments of 1,000.

In this example, I entered 20,000 Starwood points.  This converts to 60,000 Marriott points because of the 1:3 ratio.

You have to transfer at least 1,000 Marriott points.  And can transfer up to 50,000 Marriott points out of your account each year.

If you need to transfer more than 50,000 Marriott points, Marriott will allow you to transfer however many Marriott points you need for a specific redemption.  So as long as you explain the situation to the Marriott representative, you should be able to transfer as many points as you’d like!

Remember, you’ll pay a $10 transaction fee for each transaction (free for Gold and Platinum elite members).  But I’d gladly pay a small $10 fee to increase options for using points!
