Via One Mile at a Time, you can earn an 80% bonus when you buy at least 5,000 Hilton points, through February 17, 2017.

This could be a good deal for folks looking to top-off their Hilton account for an award night.  Or if you plan to use the Hilton points you buy for an otherwise expensive stay!

I’ll explain more about the offer.  And help you decide whether it makes sense for you!

Through February 17, 2017, you can earn an 80% bonus on Hilton points purchases of 5,000+ points.

Normally, Hilton sells points for 1 cent each, in 1,000 point increments.  So 1,000 Hilton points usually costs $10.

With this deal, you can buy Hilton points for ~0.6 cents each, when you buy at least 5,000 points.

For example, if you bought the minimum number of points (5,000 points) required for the deal, you’d pay $50 and get a 4,000 point bonus (80% X 5,000 points).  For a total of 9,000 Hilton points.  That’s ~0.6 cents per point ($50 / 9,000 points).

You can buy a maximum of 80,000 Hilton points per calendar year (before any bonuses are applied).

Is It Worth It?

As always, I recommend doing the math to see what makes sense for your particular situation.

For example, say you wanted to spend a night at the Grand Wailea, a Waldorf Astoria Resort.

Nights here can easily cost ~$700+.  But you could use 80,000 Hilton points per night instead.

You Can Buy Hilton Points With This Promotion to Stay at Grand Wailea, a Waldorf Astoria Resort in Maui for Less!

With this deal, you could buy 45,000 Hilton points and get a 36,000 Hilton point bonus (81,000 Hilton points total), for $450.  So you’d be saving ~$250 per night ($700 – $450) on your stay!

That’s still a lot to spend on a hotel, but it could make sense if you’re splurging for a special occasion. 😉

In some cases, if you have a paid stay coming up and award nights are available, it could be worth it to buy the points for your stay and save your cash too!

Note:  It can often be hard to find available award nights at popular Hilton hotels.  So be sure to check the award calendar before buying points.

Bottom Line

Until February 17, 2017, you can earn an 80% bonus on Hilton points purchases when you buy 5,000 points or more.

I suggest doing the math to see what makes sense for you.  Because sometimes, buying points for an award stay might cost less than the actual cash price of a room.

  1. Does the temporary return AXON awards make this a possible no brainer? Thinking of getting Hilton Surpass with 100K bonus and then maxing out on this buy miles promo. Good idea?

  2. Ripoff, HHonors points are worth 0.5 cents a piece. Talk to me when they are below that value.

  3. @WES… Your statement appears to be true. However, toping off one’s account by spending a few dollars (less dollars than if there was no 80k Bonus) may very well allow for someone to reach a level of points that allow for them to make magical things happen. Somethings would be:

    1. Booking a hotel that otherwise they did not have enough point for; such as is the case if they needed 80k points to book a hotel and only had 70k

    and or more importantly

    2. Someone that has enough points for 3 nights, who is a Platinum Member, who can now purchase enough points for the 4th night and end up with 5 nights for the cost of their points and ‘purchased’ points to acquire the 4th night.

Now while I’d like to wait it out until the ‘valuation’ of this sale is, as you put it, ‘below that (.05) value”, one does not often have the ability to sit around until a company affords such a promotion. Instead they may simply spend 10 dollars to get 1000 more points… and end up with two more nights to their stay…

Guess it all depends where you are

  4. Heads up, the hotel in Bora Bora is no longer a Hilton. It’s been updated to a Conrad. Excited to see how it compares to the photos from your visit in 2012.

  5. Will this purchase extend the expiration on the miles I already have?

  6. OR — using the AMEX Hilton HHonors cc, buy VSA gc’s at local supermarket — eatrn 5X. The math:
    (1) 500 VGC costs $6, earns 5 x 500 = 2500 ts; Cost/pt = 0.24 ct
