With the highest-ever offer for the Barclaycard Arrival Plus card, you can earn 50,000 Barclaycard Arrival miles after meeting minimum spending requirements.  That’s worth $525 in statement credits towards travel purchases of $100+, because you get 5% of your miles back when you redeem them for travel.

That’s a fantastic sign-up bonus for a card that waives the annual fee the first year.  But you might be wondering…when does the clock start on the Arrival Plus minimum spending requirements?

Arrival Plus Minimum Spending

Make Sure You Meet the Minimum Spending Requirements for the Barclaycard Arrival Plus Card on Time!

I’ll explain more.

Barclaycard Arrival Plus Minimum Spending

You’ll have 90 days from the day you’re approved for the card, NOT the day you actually receive the card.

Credit card sign-up bonuses are one of the easiest ways to earn lots of miles & points.  But to earn the bonus, you have to spend a certain amount (the “minimum spending”) within a certain period of time.

With the best offer ever for the Barclaycard Arrival Plus card, you can earn 50,000 Barclaycard Arrival miles after spending $3,000 on purchases within the first 90 days of opening your account.

You can read my full review of this offer here.

But when does the countdown to complete the minimum spending start?

It Starts from the Approval Date

If you apply for the Barclaycard Arrival Plus online and are instantly approved, the countdown to complete the minimum spending requirement begins immediately!

If you’re approved via a letter in the mail, the countdown to complete the minimum spending starts from the date on the approval letter.

It Does NOT Start on the Activation Date

Lots of folks make the mistake of thinking the minimum spending requirement starts when you activate the card.

That’s not true!  And waiting to activate your card will NOT extend the time you have to complete the minimum spending.

And don’t forget, Barclaycard will overnight their credit cards for a ~$30 fee.  But when you’re applying for a premium Barclaycard like the Barclaycard Arrival Plus, you can ask to get the fee waived.  So you can start working on the Arrival Plus minimum spending requirements sooner rather than later. 😉

Bottom Line

You’ll earn 50,000 Barclaycard Arrival miles when you open a Barclaycard Arrival Plus card and spend $3,000 on purchases in the first 90 days of opening your account.  That’s worth $525 in statement credits towards $100+ travel purchases, because you get 5% of your miles back when you redeem them for travel.

The clock starts on the Arrival Plus minimum spending the day you’re approved for the card, NOT when you receive it or activate it!  If you’re approved by mail, the countdown starts the date of the approval letter.

  1. I made this mistake once, just once and never again, spent $3,001 just a few days late, and no sympathy from Barclay

  2. With several of the cards I was just approved for, they gave me a temporary card number and I gave them the name of the payee and the amount, before my card arrived. This nice perk enabled me to finish payments on my timeshare without incurring its one last finance charge.

  3. Does this offer work if I already have the AAdvantage Aviator mastercard?

  4. @Richard – Yes the Barclaycard Arrival Plus and the AAdvantage Aviator card are 2 different card products, so you can get both. But the bank always has the final say on whether you’ll be approved.

  5. Rush fee is $15, next day delivery service was used.
Bonus Points posted once min spend is met, no need to wait for billing cycle.

  6. This information is incorrect. I clicked apply on one day, and got an approval email the next day. I counted the email date as the start date, and they said that was incorrect. I missed out on $500 because of this! They would not honor this. Watch out!!

  7. I had this card and cancelled on 12/22/14. eligible for this offer again?
