Many large US airlines use Gogo for their in-flight internet.  But did you know the Wi-Fi passes you buy in-flight are usually much more expensive than the cost of the passes you can purchase pre-flight?

So purchase a cheaper pass before your flight and save it to your Gogo account.

Many Large US Airlines Use Gogo for Their In-Flight Wi-Fi, Like United Airlines, Delta, and American Airlines

When you buy a Wi-Fi pass during your flight, the cost of the pass usually varies depending on the length of your flight.  That said, no matter how long (or short!) your flight is, it’s much cheaper to pre-purchase a pass.

Million Mile Secrets team member Meghan recently took a flight from Seattle to Charleston, South Carolina, and recalls being asked to pay $40+ for a 24-hour Gogo in-flight Wi-Fi pass.

Had she purchased a pass before her flight, it would have only cost $16 for 24-hour access.  That’s a $24+ savings!

If you fly a lot, that savings could really add up.

How to Pre-Purchase Your Gogo Discount Pass

To purchase a pass before you fly, go to the Gogo site and select which type of pass you want.

The cost of any pre-purchased pass will be less than what you’ll pay in-flight, but the “All-Day Pass” for $16 is usually the best deal.

Unless you’re certain you’ll only need internet access for no more than 1 hour.

Some folks who travel a lot might pre-purchase a couple of passes and save them to their account, just in case.  Because the passes are valid for 1 year, and they don’t want to be forced to pay the higher in-flight prices.

Ways to Get Free In-Flight Internet

There are a few credit cards that offer perks like credits towards the purchase of in-flight Wi-Fi or in-flight internet vouchers.

The Business Platinum® Card from American Express comes with free Boingo internet at places like airports, malls, and attractions.  And 10 Gogo in-flight internet passes each year.

And US Bank FlexPerks Travel Rewards cardholders can get 12 Gogo in-flight Wi-Fi passes per year.

Bottom Line About the Gogo Discount

If you know you’ll need internet access on an upcoming flight, you’ll save a lot of money by pre-purchasing a Gogo in-flight internet pass.

Once you’re on a flight, a 24-hour Gogo internet pass can cost ~$40+.  But if you buy a 24-hour pass BEFORE your flight and save it to your account, it will only cost $16.

And it can really add-up if you travel frequently.

If you have the Chase Ink Plus card, you’ll even earn 5X Chase Ultimate Rewards points on your purchase.

Some cards, like the US Bank FlexPerks Travel Rewards and AMEX Platinum Business cards, offer credits towards the purchase of in-flight Wi-Fi or in-flight internet vouchers.
