Can I get the US Bank Club Carlson card more than once?  I’ve got the card now, but I want to close it and get the bonus again.  Also, if my wife gets the card, can she use the 1 free night with the points that I’ve earned?  If not, is there any way to transfer my points to her?

The US Bank Club Carlson card comes with an 85,000 point sign-up bonus when you complete the minimum spending.  It also includes fantastic perks such as:

  • 10X Club Carlson points per $1 spent at Club Carlson hotels
  • 5X Club Carlson points per $1 spent everywhere else
  • 40,000 Club Carlson points on your card anniversary each year
  • 1 free night when you book 2 or more consecutive award nights
  • Free Gold Status (35% point bonus & free upgrades)

The $75 annual fee is NOT waived.

Can You Get the Sign-Up Bonus More Than Once?

The US Bank Club Carlson card terms say,

Neither New Account Bonus is available to applicants who have had this Card or another Club Carlson credit card product within the last 12 months.

So Welltall should be able to get the sign-up bonus again once his current account has been closed for a year.   Check out my list of other cards that let you earn the sign-up bonus more than once!

But keep in mind, US Bank can be very picky about approving folks who have a lot of credit pulls on their report in the past year or so.

So it might be better to keep his current card and get the 40,000 point anniversary bonus, instead of cancel and gamble on getting approved again for 85,000 in a year.

Welltall Can Transfer His Club Carlson Points to His Wife for Free!

Non-elite members can also transfer points to folks living in the same household for free if:

  • They’ve both had a Club Carlson account for at least 1 year
  • They haven’t changed the address on their accounts within the past 30 days

Bottom Line

With the US Bank Club Carlson card, you should be able to get the sign-up bonus a 2nd time.  That is, as long as your original account has been closed for at least 1 year.

But most folks choose to keep the card because you get 40,000 Club Carlson points on your card anniversary each year.  And that’s enough points for a free night at category 4 hotels like the Park Inn by Radisson Munich.

Plus, cardholders get 1 award night free whenever booking at least 2 consecutive nights.

Elite members can transfer Club Carlson points to a friend’s or spouse’s account for free by calling 888-288-8889.

  1. Club Carlson is great. A couple of other questions. I have the business version. Can I sign up for the personal and get the bonus. It has been more than a year since I got the business version. Another question, they won’t let you book back to back 2 night stays anymore. There has to be a day between them. If I have the personal card I sign up for create a separate account, can I book 2 nights with one account and another 2 with the other account, so they will be back to back? Anyone try this?

  2. Had the same question as curtis.

Also, is it book one night and the second is free? Or book two and the third is free?

  3. @Curtis
Yes, you can get the personal version and use it to book back to back stays. I have done this many times.

    @Paul
Your last night is free on any stay two nights or longer. So the best use of points (or cash) is to book two night stays.

  5. I’m planning to apply for this card this week, but I really need another card, or two to go along with it. I haven’t seen anything really interesting. I currently have Chase – Sapphire Preferred, Ink Bold, Freedom, Southwest Business and Personal and an Amex cards. Thanks for your input!

  6. I used over 300,000 points on a European vacation I took last year with the points earned from the personal and business versions of this card and it worked out really well for me, being able to use back to back bookings split between personal and business accounts at hotels in Paris and Amsterdam (stayed four nights at each location). I then used two night stays everywhere else I booked a Carlson hotel. Amazing value as the Amsterdam hotel itself would have cost about $1,500 for the four nights and the Parisian hotel almost as much.

Decided to keep these cards for a while as it’s hard to beat the value if travelling somewhere where there’s a reasonable Carlson property. With 2 for 1, it’s cheaper to buy points than to pay full price for two nights.
