My favorite credit cards are back!  You can get 50,000 points or ~$710 to $850 in travel on Southwest airlines from the Southwest Premier card.

And all 4 versions are currently offering 50,000 points!  Southwest has clarified that the sign-up bonus from the 50,000 points Southwest credit cards does count towards the Southwest Companion Pass.

All 4 versions of the Southwest credit cards are currently offering 50,000 Southwest points after spending $2,000 within 3 months.  You can redeem 50,000 Southwest points for ~$710 to $850 in Southwest flights or for ~$500 in gift cards.

2 Southwest credit cards and 10,000 extra points can get you $3,666 in Southwest travel and a Southwest Companion pass so that your companion can fly free (pay just the $2.50 security fee) for up to two years!

I just transferred Wyndham & Marriott hotel points to my Southwest account and they counted towards the Southwest Companion Pass!  Note that some readers are finding that Choice hotel points are no longer counting towards the Companion Pass status.  I’m digging into this and will post an update later.

All 4 Southwest 50,000 Point Cards 710 To 850 Are Back

Our Southwest Companion Pass Lets Emily fly Free!

There are 4 versions of the cards and each is considered a different product!

Note that you can’t get the sign-on bonus for the SAME card if you’ve had it in the previous two years.

For example, if you had the Southwest Plus card one year ago, you won’t be able to get the bonus for the same version i.e. the Southwest Plus card again.  But there are 3 other versions of the Southwest card to choose from!

Southwest Premier vs. Plus

You pay a $99 annual fee for the Southwest Premier card, but you get 6,000 Southwest points each anniversary.  Whereas you only get 3,000 Southwest points for a $69 annual fee with the Southwest Plus version of the card.

You pay no foreign transaction fees with the Southwest Premier card, but will pay foreign transaction fees with the Southwest Plus card.

Bottom Line

The Southwest credit cards are my favorite cards!  And one of the best deals for flying in the US, if Southwest flies to your city.  Being able to bring a partner along for free with the Companion Pass makes it even better!

You can get ~$710 to $850 in airfare on Southwest, if you apply for 1 credit card.  And if you apply for 2 cards, you’ll have 100,000 points towards the 110,000 points needed for the Southwest Companion Pass.

I just applied and got approved for the Business version of the SW card with the 50k bonus – I used one of the Personal card links above and then hit the Business link at the bottom. Thanks!!!

  3. Me two. (:-) the still first personal link above still works. I even called to verify the offer and took a screenshot. When I called the number for the business card even though it says 25K, they told me the offer was also for 50K but they couldn’t guarantee me 50K if I processed it online so I did it over the phone, aggravating, but worth the extra 25K

The offer for 50000 RR points has officially ended and has been reduced to 25k. I have an offer sent to me from Southwest for 50k. Can be shared with friends and family. It is for the Southwest Airlines Plus Credit Card. You will get the 50000 bonus points. The annual fee is $69. There is no blackout dates and you can use the points to book someone else flight if you like. This offer is good till Sept 30, 2014. Please email me at

    [email protected]

and I will email you the offer.

  11. I successfully received the companion pass for both my wife and I to help us travel for a family of 4 in Jan/Feb 2013. We used credit cards (personal+business) for the Personal Plus and Business Plus. The passes will expire the end of 2014. Is it possible to apply for the Premiere Plus and Business Plus by the end of this year (with available 50k+ bonuses) with intent on getting the bonuses again in early 2015 to get a new CP? Or is that possible that RR will give the bonus that soon again? Any evidence one way or the other on this type of prior success? Thank you.

  12. I applied and received the Rapid Rewards Business Plus card two months ago. If I apply for a Rapid Rewards Business Premiere card now, will Chase approve me? What is the recommended minimum waiting time between applying for two Chase products? Thanks in advance.

  15. Btw, for all who didnt know, the 50,000 point bonus is BACK if you apply for the Premier Card in an airport kiosk! Passed one going to my gate yesterday in Atlanta and saw the 50k and did a double take because I was waiting for the web offer to come back. Goes until 12/31/2014 I believe. Had a question though…if it takes 6-8 weeks for the 50k points to hit your account once you spend the $2k in the first 3 months, does that mean your points count toward Companion Pass in the year you hit the $2k spend or in the year the points actually hit your account? Towards the end of the year that could get tricky…

  16. I talked to SW today. They state that ONLY flights and credit card miles will count toward the Companion Pass. All other promotions and transfers (including Marriott vacations and Hyatt) no longer count.

Is this true? Are people still getting it using those methods?

  17. I would love to have a credit card that earned me points to fly. Thank you.

  18. Darius,
I used your link for the Business Plus and once I got the card, I realized it was the personal and not the Business card!!!!! I came back to your site and noticed your link to the Business Plus directs you to the Personal card (tsk, tsk). You should fix this.
The strategy I was using was to apply for the business card first and then the personal, so hopefully this error doesn’t cost me the approval 🙁

  19. Hey Guys! If anyone wants the 50k points deal and wants to help me out (5k free points!) in the process, that would be excellent. Valid until 1/31/15 for SW Premier Personal Card. Drop me a line at Nickam2862 at gmail dot com!

50K points has gotten me 2 RT flights from Denver to Miami and 1 RT from Denver to Phoenix, and I still have 10k left. Amazing Card!

  20. You are WRONG!. those 50K points were counted towards companion pass. Proof of that is I got to my total of 120k with those in December and now the CP.

  21. thanks

  22. If anyone is interested in signing up for the Southwest Premier Card with a 50,000 point bonus you should hit me up for a referral! Chase right now is only offering the 25,000 point bonus.

If you send me an email ([email protected]) with your first name, I will get a referral sent to you! The offer is for 50,000 points once you spend $2000 within the first 3 months! And I will get 5,000 points just for you signing up through my referral!
You might be able to find the offer on your own, but why not get the same offer and help someone else out? 🙂

Help me get that Companion Pass!!!

  23. If anybody wants a referral for the 50,000 points for the Southwest Rapid Rewards PLUS card you can email me at bluejay155 (add

This is the perfect time to apply if you want the companion pass for 2016 – 2017.
Right now Chase isn’t offering 50,000 points unless you have a referral. These points do count towards the companion pass. I will receive 5,000 points for the referral so you will be helping me fly more as well. THANK YOU.

Thanks and good luck earning the companion pass!
