New Zealand is my favorite place on earth.  And now I have yet another reason to love the place.

Recently, a kayaker was slapped in the face by an octopus that was being tossed about by a seal.  I’d like to think it was an intentional practical joke, but in fairness to the seal, it could have been an accident.

The assault happened near Kaikoura, on the East Coast of New Zealand’s South Island.  The area is a great place for whale watching, dolphin spotting, and of course fur seal encounters.

In 2016, Kaikoura was hit with a massive magnitude 7.8 earthquake that destroyed roads and lifted the seafloor up to 6 feet in some areas!  So it’s nice to see that tourists are returning to the small town and having a good time, even if some locals aren’t as welcoming as others.

If you haven’t made it to New Zealand yet, you need to add it to your bucket list.  Sure, airfare can be expensive, but not if you use miles & points to book the trip like Keith did!
