As the holiday season is in full swing, everyone is running promotions!  Qatar Airways is running a promotion for folks that are new to their rewards program, the Privilege Club.  You’ll be able to earn up to 10,000 bonus Qatar Airways miles (Qmiles) and they’ll fast track you to elite status, which will get you status with the oneworld airline alliance.

Even if you aren’t planing to fly on Qatar Airways you are likely to fly with one of their oneworld partners which include American Airlines, British Airways, and Cathay Pacific.  And you can credit flights with those airlines to Qatar Airways.  So with this promotion it’s possible to earn fast-tracked Qatar Airways Gold status which gets you oneworld Sapphire status.  Sapphire status comes with perks like access to 650 oneworld lounges and priority boarding.

But if you don’t have any oneworld flights in the near future, then check out the best credit cards with lounge access to get similar perks without having to earn airline elite status.

Fast Track Your Way to oneworld Airport Lounge Access

Qatar Airways Promotion Fast Track to oneworld Elite Status Which Includes Lounge Access

End date:   Enroll by March 31, 2019

Important terms & restrictions:

  • Must travel by May 31, 2019
  • When flying, be sure to credit your Privilege Club membership and not to another airline
  • Award flights do not count toward this promotion
  • Duplicate Privilege Club accounts do not qualify, you must be a new member and use the promotional code AMEPC2018 when you sign-up

If you are able to earn 100 QPoints (instead of 150) by May 31, 2019, you will then earn Silver Tier elite status.  If you are able to earn 200 QPoints (instead of 300 Qpoints) by the same date you will earn Gold Tier elite status.

You could earn Gold Tier status in as little as 1 or 2 Business Class flights.  That would get you oneworld Sapphire status, which includes access to 650 lounges, priority check-in, and priority boarding.  You can figure out what your flight will earn you with their handy QCalculator here (at the time of writing it wasn’t showing partner earnings).

You can also earn 10,000 Qatar Airways for taking a Premium Class flight during the promotion or 5,000 Qatar Airways miles for taking a coach flight.

For the full details, see Qatar Airways website here.

For myself, chasing airline status isn’t really worth it.  But you could pick-up elite status fairly easily if you’ve got flights on a partner like American Airlines, Japan Airlines, Iberia, or British Airways are planned.  But if you’re looking for American Airlines Admirals Club lounge access you might be better off just getting the Citi® / AAdvantage® Executive World Elite™ Mastercard®, which comes with Admirals Club membership.  Or check out the best credit cards for lounge access, some of which can get you into 1,000+ lounge worldwide.
