1.   33% Bonus on Membership Rewards Points Bonus to Hilton.   View from the Wing writes about a 33% bonus when you transfer Membership Rewards points to Hilton.  This means that 1,000 Membership Rewards points transfers to 2,000 Hilton points.

But if you’re after Hilton points, you should convert 1,000 Membership Rewards points to 1,350 Virgin Atlantic miles (to take advantage of the 35% transfer bonus up to December 29,2012) and then transfer 1,350 Virgin Atlantic miles to 2,700 Hilton points.

2.   Hilton Elite Status Requirements Increased.  Via The Points Guy, Hilton increased the number of nights & stays needed for Gold elite status by 4 & 2 nights for Diamond status.  This makes the free Gold status on the Hilton Reserve card even more lucrative.

However, the increased elite qualifying requirements could also be interpreted as an unwelcome repercussion of the easy availability of miles, points, and status via credit cards.  But one could argue that Hilton shouldn’t penalize folks who actually stay at their hotels as opposed to folks who sign-up for a credit card.

Or perhaps Hilton has crunched the numbers and decided that the revenue sharing from the co-branded credit cards is profitable enough to make up for folks taking the easy way out, via a credit card, to Gold elite status.

3.   100% Bonus on US Air & Avianca Points.  One Mile at a Time writes that up to December 28, 2012, you can buy Avianca miles and get a 100% bonus, so you’re effectively paying 1.5 cents per mile.  Avianca is a South American Star Alliance airline.

This may be less than the ~1.8 cents per US Air mile (up to December 7, 2012), but I’d read Lucky’s warnings about the constraints of using Avianca miles.  I also wouldn’t speculatively purchase miles unless you were short just a few miles for an award or had crunched the numbers to see if it made sense to buy the miles.
