One popular feature of JetBlue’s loyalty program has been that they allow points pooling for families. Recently, JetBlue relaunched the program, this time simply calling it “Points Pooling.” They’ve made significant improvements to the program and best of all you can use it for free!
The biggest change with the new Points Pooling program is it’s no longer limited to just families. That means you can pool points with your friends or extended family. This is great if you are planning a group trip and want to leave the organization up to a single person. Now everyone can pool their points together and a single “pool leader” can manage the reservations and use the points for everyone.
And don’t forget, JetBlue is now a transfer partner with Chase Ultimate Rewards! So it’s easier than ever to collect JetBlue points.
Biggest Changes Coming to Points Pooling
There are no negative changes with the new program, everything is an improvement. Also, using the new feature is free. This is exciting because many other airlines still charge fees for transferring points and no US airline has a program similar to JetBlue’s Points Pooling.
Here’s how it works:
- You can create a pool for yourself and up to 6 other people. This means a pool can be a maximum size of 7 people and a minimum of 2 people
- The pool leader must be 21 years or older
- There are no age restrictions on other pool members
- Pool members now contribute all of their points to the pool (although points are not used, they are simply made available to the pool)
- The pool leader can add and remove members at any time. They can also spend the pool’s points or give permission to other pool members to use points
- You may only be part of one pool at a time
- Pool members can choose to leave a pool at any time and take their unused points with them
There are a few notable changes to the program that you might notice if you have used it before.
First, pools no longer are required to be made up of family members. You can pool together with friends or extended family. Or even work colleagues, it doesn’t matter.
Second, when you join a pool, all of your points are made available to the pool. The old system required you to select a percentage of your points that were made available. So you’ll want to trust your pool leader! You can leave a pool at any time and all of your unused points will follow you when you leave.
Lastly, remember you can only be part of 1 pool at a time.
How To Use the New Points Pooling Program
To get started with creating a new pool, login to your JetBlue account. At the top of the site, you can start a new pool with just a few clicks.
After you start a pool, it’s easy to manage online.
If you select “Manage My Pool” on the right, you can choose to add more people. A total of up to 6 friends and family can be invited.
You can see who is already in your pool and modify their permissions from within this same management screen.
That is it! You can see all the points are added up from each individual pool member. You can use this balance to purchase flights for everyone on the team.
For example, I am considering trying out the pool feature to get everyone in my family to contribute points to purchase a single ticket for my grandma to come to visit her family. We can all share the cost of that purchase and then easily disband the pool after we make the reservation.
JetBlue really makes it easy with the new pool system to let friends and family combine JetBlue points to purchase award flights.
Under the new program, you and 6 other friends or family can pool your points together for free award travel. The pool leader needs to be 21 years or older, but there is no age limit for other members of the pool.
It is easy to set up and start using the Points Pool program. My question is why don’t we see great tools like this coming from other airlines?
Are you excited to start trying out this new program?
