2 Ways to Use Iberia Avios Points
You can also use Iberia Avios on Iberia. However, they charge fuel surcharges on award flights. Although they charge lower fuel surcharges on certain flights than British Airways.
So you should do the math to see if it makes sense using Iberia Avios points for award flights.
1. Reduced Iberia Avios Points Sales
Iberia has Iberia Avios points redemption sales which let you use fewer Iberia Avios points for award flights.
2. Lower Fuel Surcharges
Iberia charges lower fuel surcharges than British Airways.
For example, you could fly 1-way coach from New York to Madrid on December 6, 2014, and pay 20,000 Iberia Avios + ~$79.
Whereas if you used British Airways Avios points to book a 1-way coach flight from New York to Madrid, you would pay 20,000 British Airways points + ~$273.
So using Iberia Avios points saves you ~$194 (~$273 fuel surcharge cost to use British Airways Avios points – ~$79 fuel surcharge cost to use Iberia Avios points).
