You can get free elite status from Avis IF you have a World Elite MasterCard.

Avis First elite status gets you free upgrades and up to 8 free weekend rentals per calendar year. National Emerald Club Executive elite status gets you free upgrades, and you can choose any car from the “Executive Aisle,” and a free rental after 5 paid rentals.
