Through August 29, 2018, you’ll get a 30% bonus on Citi ThankYou points transfers to Flying Blue.  Normally, Citi ThankYou points transfer at a 1:1 ratio to Flying Blue.  But with this promotion, you’ll receive 1,300 Flying Blue miles for every 1,000 Citi ThankYou points you transfer!

A 30% bonus when transferring Citi ThankYou points to Flying Blue is great.  Flying Blue is already one of the cheapest points options for reaching Europe (though they will tack on a bit of fuel surcharges).

For example, you can fly from the East Coast to Venice for 43,000 miles round-trip, plus ~$250 in taxes & fees.  So with this promotion bonus, you could transfer 34,000 ThankYou points to Flying Blue, and have enough for the round-trip (34,000 points + 30% bonus).

But here’s the best part:  When you combine this deal with Flying Blue Promo Rewards, you can reach Paris from select cities for just 22,000 miles round-trip.

The current Promo Rewards include 50% off coach flights to Europe from New York for 11,000 Flying Blue miles one-way!  To book those flights you’d only need to transfer 17,000 Citi ThankYou points (17,000 points + 30% bonus)!

These promo rewards change every month.  So if you’re not near New York, perhaps a city near you will be on sale next month!  The previous sale was for Washington, DC, and Houston.

Just remember, you’ll end up paying higher fuel surcharges than you would with other airlines.  My sample one-way flight from New York to Paris costs 11,000 miles and $85 in taxes & fees.  As a comparison, United Airlines would charge 30,000 miles and ~$30.

Even if you don’t want to visit Paris, this is a fabulous way to get to Europe for cheap.  Then you can hop around on a low-cost airline to reach the places you actually want to see!

Flying Blue no longer has a traditional award chart.  They’ve replaced it with an award calculator.  So you’ll have to look for prices by route.  And keep in mind, the award calculator will only show you the low-level award price.  But in reality, the actual price you’ll end up paying could be much higher if the cheapest awards are sold out.
