Delta Lounges Getting Harder to Access, and This One Failed Multiple Health Inspections!

Delta cited millions in upgrades and a better customer experience as reasons for upcoming restrictions to Sky Club lounge access.  Let’s hope the lounge in Terminal 2 of Chicago’s O’Hare airport gets special attention!

It’s failed multiple health inspections for issues like black slime in ice machines, fruit flies in food storage, and crumbs in the cooler.  The last failure was as recent as October 23, 2018!

Delta says the issues have since been taken care of.

This Delta Sky Club Lounge Just Can’t Get It Together

If you’re flying through O’Hare and want to visit the Delta Sky Club in Terminal 2 near Gate E6, you might think again.

This particular location failed routine health inspections in 2016, twice in 2017, and as recently as October 2018!

The issues have to do with basic cleanliness and sanitization, including “black slimy substances” in ice dispensers used for drinks.  There were also other violations including fruit flies, food debris, and dust in the vents.

Considering Delta is soon making access tougher for a better overall experience, here’s hoping you get what you pay for – literally!  The only other lounge in Terminal 2 is a United Club lounge – and you have to fly United Airlines or one of its partners same-day to access it.

This is the only Delta Sky Club at O’Hare.  So if you’re flying Delta, be sure to do your own visual inspection if you visit here, even if Delta says the issues have been addressed.

I’ve been to many Delta Sky Clubs and have only experienced quiet places with free adult beverages, comfy chairs, and fast Wi-Fi.  So I think the lounge in Chicago is an isolated case.

If you want to access Delta Sky Clubs, consider:

• The Platinum Card® from American Express – free access for you, $29 per guest
• Delta Reserve for Business Credit Card or Delta Reserve® Credit Card from American Express – free access for you and 2 guests; $29 per guest

Keep in mind you need to have a same-day Delta flight to enter.

And while service blips and failed health inspections suck, this is a reminder to stay aware of your surroundings.  If you spot an issue, be sure to report it – and ask for compensation!
