1.   Cathay Pacific Announces Award Chart Changes Coming Soon!

Cathay Pacific has announced they are changing their award chart on June 22, 2018.  Some round-trip Business and First Class awards will be increasing in price significantly, because they will now be double the price of a one-way award.  With the old chart, round-trip awards were cheaper than booking 2 one-way flights.

But it’s not all bad news; they are increasing the number of available award seats by 20%+.  Though we don’t know what class of service those awards will be in.  And all coach awards will either remain the same in price or decrease.

Some Award Flights Will Cost Less After the Changes go Into Effect, Including Coach Flights From Hong Kong to Tokyo!

Below is the old award chart for travel booked by June, 21, 2018:Cathay Pacific Award Chart Changes Announced And Frontier Southwest Fare Sales

And this is what the chart will be on June 22, 2018:

It’s a bit harder to directly compare both charts because they aren’t just changing the prices, they are also changing how they define the zones.

But Economy awards look better almost across the board.  And the biggest hit to the Business and First Class awards is for round-trip flights.

Along with these award chart changes, Cathay Pacific is also making it easier to earn Cathay Pacific miles on their flights.  So you should be able to earn more rewards for your cash flights with them.

2.   Frontier Airlines Fare Sale Starting at $15 One-Way!

Until May 25, 2018, Frontier is having another great fare sale with one-way tickets starting at $15!  Before you jump on the deal, make sure you check the price of the return flight, because it might be more.   The travel dates are May 27 to June, 20, 2018.  And 3-day advanced purchase is required.

And remember, Frontier charges extra for things like seat selection and carry-on bags.  But with this deal, you’ll still probably end up with a cheap flight even with the hidden fees.

3.   Southwest Summer Sale Fares Starting at $54 One-Way!

Link:  Southwest Summer Sale!

Southwest is having a summer fare sale until May 31, 2018!  Southwest sales are great because you can re-book any current Southwest tickets at the lower price with no change or cancellation fees!

And since the cost of an award flight is tied to the cash price of a ticket, you’ll be able to book free flights for fewer Southwest points.

This sale is valid for domestic nonstop travel only from June 19 to November 3, 2018.

  • 21-day advanced purchase required
  • Black out dates apply
  • Restrictions apply
  • Fares not available to or from Newark,  San Juan, and Portland, Maine

The sale advertises one-way fares starting at $69, although there is at least one route as low as $54 one-way (Greenville/Spartanburg to Atlanta).  These fares aren’t as low as other sales, but keep in mind this includes peak summer travel.  Some other deals include:

  • Las Vegas to Phoenix for $59 one-way
  • Long Beach to Sacramento for $59 one-way
  • Boston to Atlanta for $82 one-way
  • Las Vegas to Los Angeles for $83 one-way
  • Buffalo to Fort Lauderdale for $99 one-way
  • Denver to Los Angeles for $99 one-way
