30% Cash Back at Macy’s With Discover It Card!

The Discover It card is offering double cash back after the 1st 12 months for new card members.  And right now, you can get 30% cash back when you shop at Macy’s online.

Get Double Cash Back With Discover It

I’ve written how you can get 10% cash back when you open a new Discover It card.  You’ll get:

• 5% cash back in rotating categories (on up to $1,500 in spending) each quarter
• DOUBLE the cash back you’ve earned at the end of the 1st year
• 1% cash back on all other spending
• No foreign transaction fees
• No annual fee

But there’s another way to earn even more cash back when you shop at Macy’s.

When you click through the Discover Deals shopping portal, you’ll get an additional 10% cash back.  And Discover has confirmed that portal purchases are eligible for double cash back.

So when you click through the Discover Deals shopping portal to shop at Macy’s and pay with Discover It card, you’ll earn 30% cash back.  Now that’s a great deal!

How To Take Advantage of This Deal

To get started, log into the Discover Deals website and search for Macy’s.

Right now, Macy’s is offering 10% cash back when you click through the Discover Deals shopping portal.  This can change at any time, so I don’t know how long it will last. 

Because Macy’s is a department store, you’ll get 5% cash back automatically when you pay with your Discover It card through September 30, 2015.

After you click through to the Macy’s website, shop as you normally would.

You’ll get 10% cash back on your purchases.  But NOT taxes or shipping fees.

It can take up to 8 weeks before your cash back is posted to your account.

After your 1st 12 billing cycles, Discover will double the cash back.  So you’ll get half right away.  And the other half at the end of your 1st year after opening the card.

The quarterly spending limit for bonus categories is $1,500.  With 30% cash back, the maximum you’d get back in your pocket is $450.  Not bad for a NO annual fee credit card!

More Ways to Get Cash Back

Macy’s isn’t the only place you can earn cash back this quarter.

Through September 30, 2015, you can earn 5% cash back at:

• Amazon.com
• Department stores (including JC Penney, Kohl’s, Macy’s, and Nordstrom)
• Home improvement stores (including Ace Hardware, Home Depot, and Lowe’s)

Be sure to check the cash back calendar for a longer list of department stores and home improvement stores.

A couple of other department stores are offering 5% cash back through the Discover Deals shopping portal, like JC Penney and Kohl’s.  So you’d get 20% cash back instead of 30% (5% quarterly bonus + 5% shopping portal bonus, both doubled after 1st 12 months).

Be sure to check prices for items you want to buy at a few different stores.  If you can get a better price, it might be worth it to take less cash back!

Are There Drawbacks?

The biggest downside of this deal is that you’ll have to wait a while to get the full 30% cash back from shopping at Macy’s online.

It can take up to 8 weeks to get cash back through Discover Deals.

And your cash back won’t be doubled until after your 1st 12 billing cycles.

You’re also limited to $1,500 per quarter.  If you don’t want to think about bonus categories each quarter, consider the Discover It Miles card instead.  It offers:

• Unlimited 1.5 miles per $1 you spend on all purchases
• DOUBLE the miles you’ve earned at the end of the 1st 12 billing cycles
• NO limit to the number of miles you can earn
• Access to free FICO credit score online
• No foreign transaction fees
• No annual fee

So with Discover It Miles, there are no limits to the rewards you can earn.  But you’ll still have to wait until the end of the 1st 12 billing cycles to get all of your miles doubled.

Note:   You can redeem miles for statement credits toward travel expenses, or have cash back deposited to your bank account.

Bottom Line

With the Discover It card and Discover Deals, it’s possible to get 30% cash back when you shop at Macy’s online by September 30, 2015.

That’s an amazing deal!

You’ll get 5% cash back this quarter at Amazon.com, department stores, and home improvement stores when you pay with your Discover It card.  And you’ll get 10% cash back when you shop at Macy’s online after clicking through the Discover Deals shopping portal.

After your 1st 12 billing cycles, Discover will double the cash back!  (But only if you already signed-up for the double cash back promotion or are a new card member.)
