Y’all know how much I love Chase Ultimate Rewards.  They’re my favorite kind of points because they’re flexible, have great travel transfer partners, and are relatively easy to earn.  But it’s important to remember that not all Chase Ultimate Rewards points transfer directly to partner airlines and hotels!

Million Mile Secret Agent Menachem asked:

How do I transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points from my Chase Freedom card to my Chase Sapphire Preferred Card (or Sapphire Reserve) account?

I’ll show you why you definitely want to know how to do this!

Get the Most Value From Your Chase Ultimate Rewards Points

You can NOT transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points earned with the Chase Freedom, Chase Freedom UnlimitedChase Ink Business Cash Credit Card, and Chase Sapphire (no longer available) cards directly to travel partners.

But you can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points earned from, for example, your Chase Freedom card to your Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase Ink Business Preferred Credit Card, or Chase Ink Bold and Chase Ink Plus (no longer available) account.  And from there to airlines or hotels!

Plus, your Chase Ultimate Rewards points are worth 1.25 cents each toward travel booked through the Chase travel portal if you redeem points from your Sapphire Preferred or Ink Business Preferred, Bold, or Plus accounts.  In your Chase Freedom account, they’re only worth 1 cent per point!  And if you have the Sapphire Reserve, they’re worth 1.5 cents each when you redeem point for travel.

So don’t make the mistake of paying for travel with your Chase Ultimate Rewards points from a card like the Chase Freedom when your points could be worth 25% or 50% more just by moving them!

Your points transfer immediately from one account to the other.  And there’s NO fee!

If you decide you want to move the points back for any reason, you can do that, too.

Bottom Line

You can transfer Chase Ultimate Rewards points from a card which doesn’t let you transfer Ultimate Rewards points to Chase’s travel partners (like the Chase Freedom) to a card which does let you transfer to airlines and hotels (like the Chase Sapphire Preferred).

So if you have the Chase Freedom, Chase Freedom UnlimitedChase Ink Business Cash, or Chase Sapphire (no longer available), you can transfer those points to a Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Sapphire Reserve, Chase Ink Business Preferred, or Chase Ink Bold and Chase Ink Plus (no longer available) account.  Because this way, they’re worth 25% or 50% more when you use points to pay for travel booked through Chase!

Making a transfer is free and instant.  So there’s no reason to NOT combine your points!
