Have you heard of a service called RadPad?  It allows you to pay up to $5,000 in rent every month to any landlord for free with a debit card.

Earn Miles Points Cash Back Paying Rent
Pay up to $5,000 in Rent for Free Online With a Debit Card. And Earn Miles, Points, and Cash Back!

I’ll show you how the service works.  I’ll also explain how to earn miles, points, and cash back when you pay your rent.  And how to quickly meet a credit card’s minimum spending requirement!

How Does RadPad Work?

I’ve written about how to pay rent and HOA fees with RentPayment.com.

And folks used WilliamPaid to earn miles and points by paying their rent.

There’s another service called RadPad.  You can pay your rent, up to $5,000 per month, for free with a debit card.

It only takes ~2 minutes to sign-up.  To get started, fill in your rent amount, due date, and email on the RadPad website.

Fill in Your Rent Details and Email to Get Started With RadPad and Click “Schedule My Rent”

After you click “Schedule My Rent,” fill in your landlord’s information.

Note:  You can also pay rent to an individual.  Select “I want to pay an individual instead.”

Then, fill in your address, and the debit or credit card you want to use.

Fill in Your Address and Payment Details to Set-Up Your 1st Rent Payment

Note:  While paying with a debit card is free, RadPad charges a 2.5% fee if you use a credit card.

RadPad will verify your rent details.  They might ask you to email a scan of your lease.  So this is NOT a good way to send money to another person unless you pay them rent.

RadPad Will Review Your Rent Details. You Can Only Pay Rent With RadPad

You can also invite roommates to pay rent.  This is handy if you want to earn points and miles for your part of the rent.  But you’ll have to get your roommate(s) onboard with RadPad!

Use the PayPal Business Debit Card for Rent Payments

Link:   PayPal Business Debit Card

PayPal offers a debit card that earns 1% cash back on signature purchases.  This includes online purchases.  And it works with RadPad!

RadPad says:

We accept PayPal debit cards!  PayPal works a little differently than most traditional debit cards.  Before setting up a payment, please check that your bank account is properly linked to your PayPal account and that you have your settings enabled so that it may withdraw directly from your bank account.  If you do not wish to do that, please make sure you have transferred enough money into your PayPal account to cover your rent payment for the month.

Use the PayPal Business Debit Card With RadPad to Get 1% of Your Rent Back

Anyone can get a PayPal Business Debit Card.  To apply, you’ll have to enter your Social Security Number.  There is NOT a hard pull on your credit to get the card.

Note:  You have to sign-up for a PayPal account before you can apply for the PayPal Business Debit Card.

If your rent is $1,000 per month, you’ll get $10 in cash back from PayPal when you pay for rent on RadPad.

You can transfer money from your bank account to PayPal.  And then earn cash back when you pay your rent with RadPad!

I have a couple of friends who do this every month!

Another way to get cash into your PayPal account is with PayPal My Cash cards.

Purchase PayPal My Cash Cards, Then Load Them to Your PayPal Account

You can load up to $4,000 per calendar month to your PayPal account with PayPal My Cash card.  And up to $500 per day.

Purchase them at:

  • 7-Eleven
  • CVS

Some CVS and Rite Aid Stores Let You Purchase PayPal My Cash Cards With a Credit Card

Some folks have confirmed they’re able to purchase PayPal My Cash cards with a credit card at CVS and Rite Aid.

The maximum you can load on a PayPal My Cash card is $500.  And there is a ~$4 activation fee per card.

Putting It All Together

Let’s say your rent is $1,500 per month.

If you buy 3 $500 PayPal My Cash Cards at CVS or Rite Aid, the activation fees will cost ~$12 (~$4 per card x 3 cards).

When you use your PayPal Business Debit Card to pay rent with RadPad, you’ll receive 1% cash back, or $15.  So you’ll profit ~$3 each time you pay your rent.

Earn Miles or Points and Even Earn a Little Profit for Paying Your Rent!

And if you can find a CVS or Rite Aid that will allow you to purchase PayPal My Cash cards with a credit card, you can earn miles or points.  That’s like getting paid to earn miles or points!

You’ll earn 1.5 American Express Membership Rewards points per $1 spent with the AMEX EveryDay Preferred when you use your card 30+ times on purchases in a billing period.

For this example, you’d earn ~2,268 AMEX Membership Rewards points per month ($1,500 + ~$12 activation fees x 1.5) and over ~27,000 AMEX Membership Rewards points in a year.  That can add up to Big Travel!

The Citi Hilton HHonors Visa Signature Card earns 3X Hilton points at drugstores.  Using the same example, you’ll earn ~4,536 Hilton points per month and over ~54,000 Hilton points in a year.

Stay 3 Nights in September at the Homewood Suites by Hilton in Orlando for 60,000 Hilton Points

That’s nearly enough for you and your family to stay for 3 nights at a hotel like the Homewood Suites by Hilton in Orlando near Universal Studios, which costs 60,000 Hilton points.  This would be ~$570 if you paid out-of-pocket!

Be Careful!

PayPal is known for shutting down accounts if they suspect you of loading up and withdrawing cash too quickly.

If you decide to purchase PayPal My Cash cards, make sure the ONLY way you are withdrawing money is through the PayPal Business Debit Card.

Do NOT load up your PayPal account and then transfer the money to your bank account.  This is a sure way to get your account shut down.

Be Cautious With PayPal. Funding With PayPal My Cash Cards Then Transferring All Your Money to Your Bank Account Could Get You Shut Down.

The Simple & Easy Way

Some folks may find the multiple steps of buying PayPal My Cash cards and using the PayPal Business Debit Card to be too much hassle.

In that case, you could transfer money from your bank account to PayPal.  And then use the PayPal Business Debit card with RadPad to pay your rent and get 1% cash back.

Your local CVS or Rite Aid may NOT accept credit cards to purchase PayPal My Cash cards.  You may want to see if your local store will accept your credit card for them before you set up RadPad and the PayPal Business Debit Card.

If you want to take the easy way, you could simply sign-up for the PayPal Business Debit Card to pay your rent with RadPad.   And then enjoy 1% cash back!

A Convenient Way to Meet Minimum Spending Requirements

RadPad could be a great way to meet minimum spending requirements when you open new credit cards.

You could buy a gift card (for an amount that will cover your rent) with a credit card.

For example, if your rent is $1,100 per month, buy a gift card for $2,000.  That’s because with RadPad, you can only use 1 card at a time.  So as long as the value of the card is enough for your rent, you should be fine.

Earn Miles Points Cash Back Paying Rent
To Meet Minimum Spending Requirements, Buy Gift Cards in Amounts That Exceed Your Rent. And Then Use Them With RadPad!

Because the gift cards are debit cards, they’re free to use with RadPad.

To earn extra miles or points, remember to buy the gift cards through a shopping portal!  Sometimes there are promotion codes for free shipping, or to waive the activation fee, so be sure to check those, too!

Bottom Line

RadPad is a service that will let you pay your rent, up to $5,000 per month, for free with a debit card.

PayPal offers a Business Debit Card that earns 1% cash back on signature and online purchases, including RadPad.

To earn miles and points in addition to cash back, you can buy PayPal My Cash cards with a credit card at some CVS or Rite Aid stores.  That way, you’ll earn miles and points for free plus cash back when you use your PayPal Business Debit Card to pay rent with RadPad.

Folks have been doing this for a while with no problems.  You can earn lots of miles and points if you use this trick responsibly.

Do you have any experiences with RadPad or PayPal My Cash cards?

There’s any way a can pay my mortgage in order to meet the requirement to get the bonus miles in the credit card?

Does this still work? I am told PayPal My Cash card are no longer available. is there a new hack to this?

Since you can reload the PayPal my cash cards why not reload them and just pay the activation fee once per card rather than buying new cards every time?

@DJ @rrrrr @raul @ryan – Thank you for commenting!

Everything I’ve read about the PayPal Business Debit MasterCard says for online purchases like RadPad, you’ll continue to earn 1% cash back even after the upcoming changes on February 1, 2016.

A friend of mine just received cash back today from paying his rent via RadPad with the PayPal Business Debit MasterCard. Of course I’ll keep checking, and will let you know if this changes!

As of right now, it still seems to work.

@cNoteZ – You should definitely be careful with PayPal, and always do what you’re comfortable with.

@scott – Some AMEX gift cards aren’t processed as debit cards, and it looks like that’s the case with RadPad. Thank you for adding your experience!

So looks like we learned nothing from this post. In fact it looks like this post was filled with lots of misinformation. Please delete it so others don’t get burned trying to do this.
