Raise your hand if you like shopping! Yeah, me too. Even though it’s sometimes tough to justify those purchases.

What if you could earn extra Delta Skymiles at some of the retailers you love? That makes it much easier to hit the “buy now” button, right!?

The Delta Skymiles shopping portal lets you earn more miles simply by making purchases at affiliated retailers. Why not earn miles towards your next trip, especially when Delta makes it so easy to do so?

What is Delta SkyMiles Shopping?

So what exactly is Delta SkyMiles shopping and how does it work? This is a program that allows you to earn extra miles on purchases made through the Delta SkyMiles Shopping portal. You’ll need to sign up for an account to accrue miles, but you can actually see all of the available retailers even without an account. I was surprised at how many retailers are listed in the Delta SkyMiles shopping portal!

How to join Delta SkyMiles Shopping

If you haven’t already signed up, here are the steps required for joining SkyMiles Shopping:

Step 1.

The first step is to create an account to access the Delta SkyMiles Shopping portal. Start here and click “sign up.” If you’re already a Delta SkyMiles member you can use the same credentials to log in to the shopping portal. If you don’t already have a Delta Skymiles account, you can sign up here.

Step 2.

Once you’re on the SkyMiles Shopping sign up page, enter all of the required information, including your Delta SkyMiles account number. Tip: Have your SkyMiles account number ready before you sign up (this way you won’t need to search for it).

Step 3.

Once you’ve created an account you can start shopping! Just remember that you’ll need to be logged in to earn those extra miles.

How to use and maximize Delta SkyMiles Shopping

There are many ways to use and make the most out of the Delta SkyMiles Shopping.

Login and landing page overview

You’ll start out on the SkyMiles landing page. This is where you can sign up for an account, log in to your existing account, and quickly search for stores or products that are available through the shopping portal. You can also click on the icon of the airplane on the top right side of the page to easily see special offers.

Explore retailers available

Check out all of the various retailers listed in the portal, see what bonus offers are available, and keep these in mind before you make your next purchase. You can search for a specific retailer, or explore stores and see an alphabetized list of all available retailers.

Find special offers

Sometimes Delta will offer special shopping bonuses where you can earn even more miles. To find these offers, simply click on “explore stores and more” and then shop by offer. These offers change often, so it’s a good idea to always keep an eye out to see what’s new and what is expiring soon.

Delta SkyMiles Shopping Button

Ok, I might have saved the very best for last…there is actually a Chrome plugin for the Delta SkyMiles Shopping button. That means that you can add the Shopping button to your Chrome browser and access these deals even when you’re not searching the SkyMiles Shopping website.

Any time you’re shopping on a participating retailer’s site, you’ll see a pop-up that prompts you to “activate.” Once you do, you’ll automatically earn miles for every dollar spent!

Best cards to use with the shopping portal

Here’s where it gets even more fun. You’ve tapped into this fantastic way to earn extra miles while shopping for items that you were already looking to buy. Why not double up and earn even more rewards for your purchases by using a credit card in the shopping portal?

The best card depends on which type of rewards (miles, points, or cash back) you’re looking to earn. Here are some of the cards that we recommend to maximize your rewards:

Chase Freedom Unlimited®

With the Freedom Unlimited, you’ll earn a $200 cash bonus after spending $500 on purchases in the first three months from account opening. This is a great card for online purchases because it also earns an unlimited 1.5% cash back (1.5 Chase Ultimate Rewards points) on all purchases, with no minimum redemption amount.

The Platinum Card® from American Express

Currently, Amex is offering 100,000 Membership Rewards points when you spend $6,000 in the first six months of opening your new card. Yes, there is a high annual fee of $695 (see rates & fees), which can feel tough to justify, but the perks add up to even more than that. An up to $200 in annual Uber Cash for Uber rides and Uber eats in the U.S., access to the Amex Centurion lounges, and more.

It’s the up to $100 in annual credits to Saks Fifth Avenue that’ll really allow you to double-dip deals. The credit is available in the form of two up to $50 statement credits per year. Your first $50 statement credit is available from July 1 to Dec. 31 and your second $50 statement credit is available from Jan. 1 to June 30. Enrollment required for select benefits.

Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express

Sometimes you just want a little bit of money back in your pocket. With the Blue Cash Preferred Amex card, you’ll receive a $350 statement credit after you spend $3,000 in purchases on your new card within the first six months of card membership. This card has a $95 annual fee (see rates & fees).

On top of this, you’ll earn 6% cash back at U.S. supermarkets (up to $6,000 in purchases per calendar year; then 1%) and with select U.S. streaming services. You’ll get 3% cash back at U.S. gas stations, and 1% cashback on other purchases. So regardless of what you’re purchasing online, you’re sure to get something back. Cash back is received in the form of Reward Dollars that can be redeemed for statement credits.

Bottom line

Making purchases through the Delta SkyMiles Shopping is one of the easiest ways to really rack up those Delta miles. It feels good to combine two true loves, shopping and travel, and to know that every purchase you make brings you closer to a free flight to somewhere that you can show off all of those stylish items you bought on Delta SkyMiles Shopping.
