I had gotten the Citi ThankYou Preferred card years ago, and have kept it since it has no annual fee. I applied for the ThankYou Premier card so I can transfer points to Singapore Airlines. Can I transfer points from the Preferred to the Premier card?
Matthew is referring to transferring Citi ThankYou points to their new airline transfer partners, which include Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, and most recently Flying Blue (Air France and KLM’s frequent flyer program).
You can only transfer points earned from the Citi ThankYou Premier, Citi Prestige, and Citi Chairman cards directly to airline partners.
Matthew just got the Citi ThankYou Premier card, but he wants to know if he can transfer points from his Citi ThankYou Preferred card to his ThankYou Premier account and then to airline partners.
Yes You Can!

If you have the Citi ThankYou Premier, Citi Prestige, or Citi Chairman (no longer available to new applicants) cards, you can combine points from other ThankYou points earning cards (like the Citi ThankYou Preferred, Citi ThankYou Preferred for College Students, or CitiBusiness ThankYou card) into ONE account. And then transfer them to airline and hotel partners!
If Matthew wants to combine points from his Citi ThankYou Preferred card and Citi ThankYou Premier account, he can do so by going to the Citi ThankYou website and clicking on “Combine ThankYou Accounts.”
Once he’s combined his points, Matthew can then transfer them to 9 airline partners (and Hilton hotels):
- Cathay Pacific (oneworld)
- Etihad
- EVA Air (Star Alliance)
- Flying Blue (SkyTeam)
- Garuda Indonesia (SkyTeam)
- Malaysia Airlines (oneworld)
- Qatar Airways (oneworld)
- Singapore Airlines (Star Alliance)
- Thai Airways (Star Alliance)
If you already have a Citi ThankYou Preferred card, it’s a good card to keep for a long time to build your credit history, because it has no annual fee. But by signing-up for the Citi ThankYou Premier or Citi Prestige cards, you’ll be able to combine all of your Citi ThankYou points and transfer them to airline partners or Hilton hotels.
Bottom Line
Million Mile Secrets reader Matthew wants to know if he can combine points from his Citi ThankYou Preferred card to his new Citi ThankYou Premier card, then transfer them to Citi’s new airline partners.
Yes, he can! As long as you have the Citi ThankYou Premier, Citi Prestige, or Citi Chairman card, you can combine points from other ThankYou points cards and then transfer them to airline partners (plus Hilton hotels).
Matthew should keep his Citi ThankYou Preferred card, because it has no annual fee and can help build his credit history.
Thanks for the question, Matthew!
