1.   Paris

You can book a round-trip coach award flight to Paris and other cities in Europe for 60,000 American Airlines miles.  So earning the Citi American Airlines Platinum Select card sign-up bonus could nearly eliminate the cost of a ticket.  And if each partner applies for the card to earn the sign-up bonus separately, you’ll have enough miles for 2 round-trip tickets to Europe!

Depending on your travel dates, you could potentially book an even better deal.  Because you’ll pay only 45,000 American Airlines miles for a round-trip coach award flight to Europe during off-peak travel dates, including:

• January 10 to March 14
• November 1 to December 14

Taxes & fees on American Airlines award flights to Paris aren’t bad either.  On sample routes I checked, they were ~$90.  Keep in mind, you’ll pay significantly more in fees if you use American Airlines miles to fly on partner airline British Airways.

My wife and I visited Paris in mid-November and had a fantastic time.  It rained a bit, but the city wasn’t too crowded and we didn’t have to wait in lines to visit Notre-Dame Cathedral or The Louvre.

For example, I searched sample travel dates for a round-trip coach ticket between Los Angeles to Maui.  There weren’t any low-level award seats available on a non-stop American Airlines flight.  But there was an option to redeem American Airlines miles for a non-stop flight on Alaska Airlines!

American Airlines also offers discounted award flights to Hawaii during the off-peak season.  You’ll pay 20,000 American Airlines miles one-way to Hawaii if you travel during these dates:

• December 29 to March 12
• August 11 to November 18
• November 24 to December 10

And you’ll pay 20,000 American Airlines miles for a one-way award flight home from Hawaii if you travel during these dates:

• January 7 to March 19
• August 18 to November 27
• December 3 to December 25

3.   Los Cabos  

My wife and I enjoyed celebrating our wedding anniversary on a romantic getaway to Los Cabos, Mexico.  There are some wonderful restaurants in the area and the scenery is amazing!
