New card alert!
On July 22, 2018, another American Airlines credit card will be up for grabs. The Citi AAdvantage MileUpSM card is a no annual fee credit card that will come with a 10,000 American Airlines mile bonus and a $50 statement credit after you spend $500 in purchases in the first 3 months of account opening.
You’ll also earn:
- 2 American Airlines miles per $1 on eligible American Airlines purchases
- 2 American Airlines miles per $1 at grocery stores
- 1 American Airlines mile per $1 for all other purchases
The extra miles you’ll earn for grocery shopping is interesting, and helps to round out your opportunity to earn bonus American Airlines miles on most of your purchases. Other cards, like the Citi® / AAdvantage® Platinum Select® World Elite™ Mastercard®, earn bonus miles at gas stations and restaurants, but NOT at grocery stores. So if your miles of choice are American Airlines miles and you spend a lot on groceries, this is a good card to have!
The 10,000-mile bonus and $50 statement credit are limited-time offers (though we don’t yet know the end date). And though we can’t say for certain, this card will likely fall under the same rule as other current American Airlines credit cards. Per Citi:
[B]onus miles are not available if you have had any Citi® / AAdvantage® card (other than a CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® card) opened or closed in the past 24 months.
So you may not be eligible for a welcome bonus if you’ve recently opened an American Airlines personal credit card. The information for the Citi AAdvantage Platinum and CitiBusiness AAdvantage Platinum card has been collected independently by Million Mile Secrets. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.
Note: The Citi AAdvantage MileUp card is replacing the Citi American Airlines Bronze card. Folks with the Citi American Airlines Bronze card will have the same earning rates as the Citi AAdvantage MileUp card beginning July 22, 2018. And as those cards expire, Citi will send them an AAdvantage MileUp card instead.
Bottom Line
A new no annual fee American Airlines credit card will arrive on July 22, 2018! And it’ll come with a limited-time offer of 10,000 American Airlines miles and a $50 statement credit after you spend $500 in the first 3 months of account opening.
The card will likely be restricted by the same rules as other Citi American Airlines credit cards. In short, there are MUCH better American Airlines credit cards you should open instead of this one, like the Citi American Airlines Platinum Select.
What do you think of this upcoming American Airlines card?
